Jackson sophomore Chelsea Drum and senior Gabe Underwood both finished ahead of the pack to claim individual cross country titles for the Indians at the 49th annual Cape Central Tiger Invitational on Saturday.

Jackson finished first in the girls team standings. In addition to Drum's first-place time of 20 minutes, 6 seconds, the Indians had three other runners that placed in the top 10. Freshman Ana Compton finished in fifth place with a time of 21:23, junior Tayler Winick (21:38) finished seventh and sophomore Carli Knott (22:09) finished 10th.

Also placing in the top 10 individual results were Notre Dame freshman Katie Hanners, who finished third in 21:20, and junior Adilyn Mueller (21:34) who finished seventh. The Bulldogs did not fare well in the team standings due to only fielding one other runner, junior Amy Banda, who finished in 26th place.

Saxony Lutheran senior Breanne Etzold was the 35th runner to cross the finish line with a time of 24 minutes, 51 seconds to pace the Crusaders, who finished fifth in the overall standings.

Notre Dame finished first in the boys team standings. The Bulldogs had three runners in the top 10. Freshman Rudy McClellan finished in third place with a time of 17:11. Senior Jacob Meadors (17:36) finished fifth and junior Michael Peters (17:50) placed ninth.

Junior Jack Jeffers finished in sixth place with a time of 17:44 for Jackson, who finished third in the team standings, seven points behind Northwest of Cedar Hill.

Goalkeeper Thomas Himmelberg had the shutout for Notre Dame (5-4).

Central's Christian Retter, John Young, Reed Dickson and Ben Ferreri were the lone qualifiers in the 200 medley relay with a 24th-place time of 2:08.15 for the Tigers in the 37-team CoMo Invitational at the Mizzou Aquatic Center in Columbia, Mo.

"We had a great meet," Central coach Dayna Powell said. "The times and scores don't reflect it, but the competition was just intense. It really was a great meet."

Jackson wins two

Jackson dropped only one singles match in each of its meetings during a quad meet with Central, Mehlville and Oakville in the suburban St. Louis area.

The Indians defeated Oakville 8-1 and then triumphed over Mehlville 8-1 to improve to 6-6.
