Jackson's Jill Rushin was a double winner in Saturday's Class 4 sectional meet to lead the area's contingent into next weekend's state meet.

The top four finishers in each event from the sectional at Rockwood Summit in Fenton qualified for state competition Friday and Saturday in Jefferson City.

Rushin captured the shot put with a throw of 45 feet 5 inches and the discus with a toss of 138-4.

The other local sectional champion was Central's Matt Deisher, who won the pole vault with a height of 14-6. Teammate Ray Woldtvedt was second at 14 feet.

Jackson's Blake Peiffer was a double qualifier as he placed second in the discus and finished third in the shot put.

Jackson had one qualifier on the girls side, Jordan Whitener. She was fourth in the pole vault.

Central's girls got fourth-place finishes from Carlee Reaves in the shot put and Brittany Moreland in the 800.

The Tigers also received fourth-place performances from their 800-meter and 1,600-meter relay teams.

Class 3 sectional

Notre Dame had a strong meet at Farmington as the Bulldogs qualified all nine of their sectional participants into next weekend's Class 3 state meet.

Wynn McClellan was a double qualifier as he finished third in the 3,200 and was part of the Bulldogs' 3,200 relay team that placed second.

Other individual qualifiers for Notre Dame's boys were Joe Froemsdorf (third, pole vault), Brennan Scheeter (third, shot put) and Grant Eudy (fourth, high jump).

On the girls side, Notre Dame's Jill Schnurbusch set a school record in the pole vault by placing third at 10-6, while teammate Allie Job finished fourth.

Perryville's Garrett Leible won the shot put (52-6) and will be the school's lone representative at state.
