Jackson's Enders throws no-hitter in 2-0 win at Arkansas tournament

Geoff Enders kicked off the Jackson American Legion team's participation in the Jonesboro, Ark., tournament by throwing a no-hitter at the host team on Thursday.

Jackson posted a 2-0 win to begin pool play in the 24-team event.

Enders walked four and struck out five over seven innings to improve his record to 1-1.

"It was outstanding," Jackson coach Mark Lewis said of the performance. "It was the best game he's had."

Post 158 improved to 4-6 on the season. It plays Blytheville, Ark., at 1:30 p.m. today and Paragould, Ark., at 4:30 p.m. Saturday to round out pool play.

Jackson had seven hits, two by Bret Groening. After Post 158 scored its first run on a passed ball in the fourth inning, Logan Lawson drove in a run in the seventh inning.

Scott County victorious

Scott County improved to 4-3 with a 6-3 victory at Ste. Genevieve.

Alex Orr pitched 4 1/3 innings for the win. Scott County had nine hits, led by Caleb Daughhetee with three. Trent Moses homered and doubled, while Rusty Hendricks added two hits.

Cape rallies for win

Cape Girardeau Ford & Sons finished off a doubleheader sweep by rallying past visiting Perryville late Wednesday.

After winning the opener 3-1, Cape overcame a four-run deficit to capture the nightcap 8-7. Ford & Sons im-proved to 8-3, while Perryville fell to 0-3.

Perryville jumped on top with three runs in the top of the first inning of the second game and led 7-3 after three innings.

Cape scored twice in the bottom of the fourth inning to pull within 7-5 and took the lead for good with a three-run fifth.

Ford & Sons had just six hits, the big blow being a three-run home run by Blake Slattery. Perryville had 11 hits.

Kory Kitchen was the winning pitcher in relief, as he allowed no runs and three hits over the final four innings. He struck out five and walked one.

Cape had captured the opener behind the three-hit, complete-game pitching of Justin Myers, who struck out 10 and walked two.

Ford & Sons had just 11 total hits in the doubleheader, led by Chris Brotherton with three.

Perryville finished the night with 14 hits, led by Alex Armbruster with three.

Cape returns to action Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at House Springs.
