Jackson withstands Sikeston barrage to claim 54-49 victory

Jackson's boys basketball team withstood a first-half 3-point barrage from visiting Sikeston and posted a 54-49 come-from-behind victory Tuesday night.

Of Sikeston's 17 field goals for the game, 12 were 3-pointers. The Bulldogs hit for 10 of their 3-pointers in the opening half, which ended with Sikeston leading 35-26.

"They were even banking them in off the glass," Jackson coach Mike Kiehne said. "They were hot."

However, Sikeston managed just two 3-pointers and 14 points the entire second half.

"We limited their open looks and made them force some shots," Kiehne said.

Jackson (17-3) cut the lead to 43-39 by the start of the fourth quarter and moved into the lead midway through the period.

Jason Schafer scored 11 of his game-high 19 points in the second half for the Indians. Jack Puisis added 10 points.

Sikeston freshman Joe Lincoln hit for five 3-pointers and led the Bulldogs with 17 points. Sophomore Kash Bratcher added four 3-pointers and 14 points.
