Jackson tuned up for next week's Class 4 state golf meet by winning the SEMO Conference Tournament Tuesday at Dalhousie Golf Club.
Led by medalist Chad Reiminger, Jackson finished with a 310 total for an eight-stroke victory in the 11-team field. Central placed second with a 318 total. Notre Dame totaled 353 to place eighth.
Reiminger shot a 1-under-par 71 to edge E.C. Atchinson of Sikeston by a stroke. Matt Litzelfelner added a 77 for Jackson, and Eric Fraley and Blake McDowell finished at 81.
Central state-qualifier Todd Obergoenner finished third in the individual standings, leading the Tigers with a 76. Teammate Ty Gramling was a stroke behind at 77.
John Blattel and Travis Siebert paced Notre Dame with 85s.
BOYS TENNIS
Class 2, District 1
Central's doubles team of Heath Orr and Will Ramsey placed second in the Class 2, District 1 meet in St. Louis to qualify for the state meet.
Orr and Ramsey won three matches and came one victory short of vaulting Central into next week's sectionals. The top two entries in individual events gained berths in the state meet, and the top two teams advanced to the sectional round.
Lindbergh won with 29.5 points. Central finished with 21 points to place third.
Central's No. 2 doubles team of P.D. Stuart and Adam Baron won two matches before losing in the quarterfinals. The Tigers' No. 1 singles player, Tyler Roeger, won two matches and No. 2 singles player Kevin Rohatgi won one match.
BASEBALL
Notre Dame 8, Clearwater 2
Notre Dame fell behind 2-0 after the first inning, but rebounded with eight unanswered runs on the road.
Lee Essner recovered from a slow start to pitch a complete game for the Bulldogs (16-5). Essner struck out seven, allowed nine hits and walked one. Essner also had a key two-run home run in a four-run fourth inning to help Notre Dame take its first lead.
"He picked himself up and hit a big home run in the fourth," Notre Dame coach Jeff Graviett said.
Notre Dame added two more runs in the sixth and seventh innings to pad its two-run lead. The Bulldogs bashed out 10 hits, six of which went for extra bases. Matt Smith led Notre Dame with three hits, including two doubles. Jeff Brosey added two hits.
Oran 14, Bell City 2
Trey Graviett struck out nine to pick up the complete-game win for Oran on the road.
Graviett allowed five hits and an earned run in six innings. Graviett was 3-for-4 with the bat. Brandon Dirnberger added three hits for Oran (15-2) and Joey Bickings added two hits. Bickings and Ryne Wood had home runs for the Eagles. Ty Brown had three hits and Zak McIntyre added two for Bell City.
Kelly 3, Scott City 1
Kelly scored two runs in the fifth inning to break a tie with Scott City and hung on for the road victory.
Major Burger struck out 10 Rams and allowed just three hits in notching the victory. Burger walked six batters.
Mark Johnston suffered the loss despite allowing just four hits. He struck out four, walked three and allowed one earned run.
Chaffee 8, East Prairie 0
Chaffee had no problem with East Prairie (9-10) as the Red Devils scored two runs in the first and three in the second.
James Reischman and Brent Thomason each had three hits. Thomason also finished with three RBIs.
The Red Devils (10-10) defense committed only one error behind winning pitcher Sam Burnett, who had seven strikeouts.
Woodland 17, Oak Ridge 7
Kent McCormick had a bases-clearing triple among his seven RBIs as Woodland (12-7) won in six innings.
The Cardinals enacted the 10-run rule with seven runs in the sixth.
Luke Johnson also had a triple for the Cardinals and Josh Foster went 2-for-4.
Delta 15, Meadow Hts. 14
Delta scored three runs in the eighth inning and held off a Meadow Heights rally to win on the road.
Tanner Baggett led Delta's offensive explosion by going 5-for-5. Cody Crowden added four hits and Jerry Seabaugh added three hits for the Bobcats (5-10). Tom Horn and Vince Flores had two hits apiece for Delta.
GIRLS SOCCER
Central 8, Sikeston 0
Julie Underwood and Megan McDonald had two goals apiece as Central rolled on the road.
Allie McGinty, Chelsey Oliver, Caitlin Bahn and Meagan Freeze added goals for the Tigers (11-8). McDonald, Freeze, Oliver, Underwood, Emily Morris and Merritt Gerlach had assists. Megan Kistner was in goal for the shutout.
Notre Dame 2, Marion (Ill.) 1
Sierra Ellis and Allison Essner scored goals as Notre Dame (17-2-1) won on the road.
Essner scored at the 30-minute mark of the first half off a pass from Lauren Mehner. Ellis upped the lead to 2-0 in the 50th minute with Megan Holloway getting the assist.
Notre Dame won the JV game 1-0 on a goal by Kaitlyn Scheeter. Laura Muir recorded the shutout.
SOFTBALL
Woodland 13, Oak Ridge 12
Woodland scored two runs in the top of the seventh to rally for a road victory.
Woodland built an 11-4 lead with five runs in the top of the fifth. Oak Ridge (6-7) responded with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth and took the lead with a run in the sixth. Sasha Hutson picked up the win for Woodland, going all seven innings.
Chelsea Felter and Mindy Rook had two hits apiece for Oak Ridge. Lotte Cook led the Cardinals with three hits and Jenna Greer and Hutson had two hits apiece.
Delta 13, Meadow Hts. 2
Delta used a seven-run fifth inning on the road.
Tiffany Johnson went 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the way for Delta (10-2). Rebecca Cook provided two triples while Krystal Burnett added two doubles. Ashley Martin went 3-for-4 and winning pitcher Sarah Cook, Jenny Dannenmueller and Kacie Seabaugh each had two hits.
Sarah Cook allowed one hit.
Oran 15, Bell City 1
Teresa Hodges pitched a complete-game three-hitter as Oran won on the road.
Hodges struck out five and walked one in five innings. Hodges also went 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs. Hannah Seyer, Amber Seyer, Lexi Todt and Courtney Nenninger added two hits apiece for the Eagles (8-5).
East Prairie 19, Chaffee 9
Chaffee could not overcome nine errors and fell at home.
The Red Devils (10-3) led 5-2 after two innings before allowing eight runs in the third inning. Kegan Orr led Chaffee with three hits and Abby Walter added two. Mindy Hendrix hit a home run for Chaffee.
GIRLS SWIMMING
SEMO Conference meet
Central, led by a state-qualifying time by its 200 freestyle relay team, won all but two events and cruised to the conference title at Central Pool.
Central finished with 467 points, while Notre Dame had 362 and Poplar Bluff had 182.
Cassie Kipper, Sarah Goeke, Hannah Lewis and Katie Maginel combined to win the 200 relay in 1:48.26.
Kipper also won the 200 freestyle and 200 IM; Goeke won the 100 freestyle; and Maginel finished first in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Jackie Erlacker claimed the diving competition, while Brianna LeGrand won the 500 freestyle and Brett Ford won the 100 breaststroke. Central also won the medley relay.
Notre Dame victories were Ashley Ducharme in the 100 backstroke and by its 400- freestyle relay team.
OTHER EVENTS
Central's JV baseball team (11-3) allowed four hits and defeated Jackson 11-1. Scott Brueckner was 3-for-3 with a three-run home run and Matt Hellrich and Corey Huskey each were 3-for-4 for Central. Huskey got the win.
