The Jackson Cal Ripken baseball team is off to a fast start at the Midwest Plains Regional Tournament for 12-year-old boys in Dickinson, N.D.

Jackson improved to 2-0 in the nine-team event by routing Cimarron River, Kan., 14-0 Saturday. Scheduled for six innings, the game was stopped after four innings by the 10-run rule.

Clayton Baker allowed just two hits while pitching all four innings. He struck out seven.

Baker also homered, as did Logan Bartels. Ethan Ruch had three of Jackson's 13 hits.

Jackson opened the tournament Friday with a 13-1 victory over host Dickinson.

Bartels picked up the win.

Jackson had 15 hits, led by Mason Sander with three, including two doubles. Zach McDowell also had three hits.

The tournament ends Tuesday.

SEMO South eliminated

The SEMO South baseball team was ousted from the Babe Ruth regional tournament for 15-year-old boys in Lyons, Kan.

SEMO South, with players from Chaffee, Benton, Oran and Scott City, lost 5-4 on Saturday after surrendering two runs in the seventh inning.

The team had lost 18-1 to Nebraska on Friday night.

In Saturday's game, Bryce Faulkner led SEMO South with two hits and three RBIs. Steven Dooley suffered the loss in a complete-game effort.

Cody Campbell had a hit and an RBI in Friday's loss.
