Jackson captured the Cal Ripken 12-year-old state championship Sunday, routing Lebanon 10-0 in the title contest in Jackson.

Jackson rolled through the state tournament without a loss, its closest call being a 2-1 win in the first round over Mineral Area. The other victories were 14-0 and 14-2.

Next up for Jackson is the regional tournament in North Dakota, which begins play Thursday.

The SEMO Magic, a local 16-under softball team, opened pool play Monday in the NSA World Series in Chattanooga, Tenn., with a 15-2, five-inning victory over the Burbank (Ill.) Strutters.

Kristain Burger was the winning pitcher. She also homered and doubled while driving in four runs.

Hannah Glueck, Courtney Ostendorf and Eden Ellison all had two hits and two RBIs.
