Jackson won a battle of undefeated SEMO Conference baseball teams with a 5-3 road victory against Sikeston on Thursday at VFW Stadium.
Jackson (7-1, 4-0 SEMO Conference) never trailed, taking a 3-0 lead and withstanding a seventh-inning rally by the Bulldogs.
Sikeston (7-3, 3-1) placed runners on first and second with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but Jackson pitcher Tyler Beussink was able to get out of the jam with a strikeout. This came after Sikeston's Cullen DeHart sent a foul ball over the right field fence that would have won the game if not for a matter of feet.
Beussink pitched all seven innings, allowing just five hits and three runs, two earned. He struck out three and walked none.
Derrick Biri and Beussink each had two hits for the Indians. Joel Penrod had an RBI double.
"Tyler threw real well, and our whole team played well," Jackson coach Rex Crosnoe said. "With all the rain we've had, we hadn't played in a while, and I was wondering how we'd come out. I was pleased."
Sikeston's Bryce Wibbenmeyer took the loss in 3 2/3 innings pitched. He allowed eight hits and five runs with one strikeout and two walks.
