Jackson win ends a three-game slump

MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- After three straight losses, Jackson's boys basketball team built a solid halftime lead and cruised past Woodland 66-44 Tuesday night.

Jackson (7-7) led 13-8 after the first quarter and 28-18 by halftime. Woodland fell to 7-7.

"I thought we gave it everything we had," Woodland coach Ted Hahn said. "I didn't think we played bad at all."

Brad Eaton led Jackson with 15 points and Tyler McNeely had 14.

Alex Van Gennip scored 20 for Woodland.

Oran 73, Zalma 49

Oran picked up a lopsided win over Zalma on the road.

Nathan Seyer led Oran (9-4) with 19 points and Ryne Wood added 15. Chad Wiseman scored 13 to lead Zalma (3-6), which committed 26 turnovers.

St. Vincent 62, Windsor 46

St. Vincent opened its Jefferson County Conference schedule with a home victory.

Matt Wengert led St. Vincent with a double-double, scoring 20 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. Alex Armbruster added 16 points for the Indians (6-4, 1-0).

"This was one of our better games of the year," St. Vincent coach Bruce Valleroy said.

Scott City 83, Delta 53

D.J. Walton scored 25 points as Scott City went on the road to defeat Delta.

Jeremy Schlosser added 14 points for the Rams and Andy Beck had 10.

Scott City (9-3) built an 18-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

Joey Keys scored 27 points for Delta (2-9).

Bernie 57, Leopold 48

Leopold (3-9) got 26 points from Kevin Holzum, but it wasn't enough to hold off visiting Bernie (7-7).

Leopold fell behind early and never recovered.

Bell City 94, Puxico 33

The Bell City used a strong first-quarter effort to post a big win at home.

The Cubs (12-2) were led by Eric Henry, who netted 23 points, Dominitrix Johnson added 16 points, Kenyon Wright contributed 14 points and sophomore A.J. Henry netted 11.

Puxico fell to 4-5.

Perryville 62, Chester 59

Perryville remained unbeaten in the Chester tournament by defeating the host.

Perryville was down 44-33 at the start of the fourth quarter but rallied with 29 points in the final quarter.

Aaron Weibrecht led Perryville (4-8) with 12 points. Tim Winningham added 11.

Meadow Heights 79, Oak Ridge 63

Meadow Heights (8-3) handed Oak Ridge a loss at home.

Joey Bell buried 28 points, including five 3-pointers before fouling out. Terry Wagner added 18 points while Chris Burr finished with 15.

Oak Ridge (0-11) was led by Alex Fadler's 28 points. Zak Ruesler added 13 points.

New Salem Baptist 54, Festus Twin City 31

New Salem routed TwinCity at Festus. Joe Devault led New Salem (14-7) with 22 points and Andrew Conway had 10.

BOYS SWIMMING

Notre Dame 96, Vianney 89

Notre Dame teams finished first and third in the final event of the day to pull ahead of Vianney in a home meet.

John Fisher, John Stoverink, Mark Lester and Jordan Kuper combined to win the 400 freestyle relay, and Chad McCormack, Justin Voss, Josh Buchheit and Josh Lester teamed to finish third, pushing Notre Dame ahead for its fifth win this season.

Other winners for Notre Dame:Kuper (200 IM), Fisher (50 freestyle, 100 butterfly), Stoverink (diving), Jameson Kuper (200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke) and the 200 freestyle team of the Kupers, McCormack and Stephen Hine.

Jameson Kuper's time of 1:05.95 in the 100 breaststroke was a state-qualifying time.

Central 102, Poplar Bluff 68

Central won a conference dual match at Poplar Bluff.

Sam Maguire, Clay Tummins, Andrew Morton and Kris Metje combined to win the medley relay .

Central also took first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:40.59) and the 400 freestyle relay (4:37.90). Morton, Clay Schermann, Metje and Maguire teamed up for the 200 free victory while Tyler Thomson, White and Kiel combined in the 400.

Other winners included: Metje (200 free), Maguire (50 free), Morton (100 fly), Drew Kiel (500 free), and Tummins (100 Breast.)

OTHER EVENTS

Saxony Lutheran's JV boys basketball team won its ninth in a row, defeating Leopold's JV 49-31. Tim Lorenz led Saxony (13-3) with 14 points. Casey Petzoldt had 11 and Lauren Leuders 10.
