Jackson wrestler Cody Rouse kept his perfect season alive, winning the 152-pound weight class at the Class 4 District 1 tournament at Oakville High School on Saturday.

Rouse was one of seven Jackson wrestlers to qualify for the state tournament, including fellow district champion Kamden Rampley at 189 pounds. The top four finishers in each weight class qualify for the state tournament, which will be Thursday through Saturday at the Hearnes Center in Columbia.

Josh Schumacher (125), Andy Glass (215) and Dustin Fluegge (heavyweight) all finished second for the Indians. Freshmen Jamie Schumacher (112) and Justin Miller (119) both finished fourth to qualify.

The Indians finished second as a team with 157 points, behind district champion Northwest with 176. Lafayette (154), Seckman (149) and Marquette (110) rounded out the top five.

"I'm proud of kids that got through and that we got second, but we're better than we wrestled tonight," Jackson coach Steve Wachter said.

Huskey wins district title

Central qualified four wrestlers for the state tournament at the Class 3 District 1 tournament at Farmington, led by district champion Cory Huskey at 160 pounds.

Matt Latham finished second at 119 pounds, and Tyler Yeargain (130) and Garrett New (145) both finished third. Central's four state qualifiers is the most in coach Josh Crowell's six-year tenure as head coach.

The Tigers finished fourth in the team standings. Eureka finished first, followed by Farmington and Pacific.

"What I'm really proud of team-wise, even though we only had four kids qualify, a lot of the kids that didn't qualify got far and got us some points," Crowell said. "We probably looked the best we've looked all year in this tournament."
