Jackson, St. Vincent lead way in all-region

~ The two schools combined for 11 first-team players.

Area high school football teams Jackson and St. Vincent -- the only two area squads out of the six teams in the Southeast Missourian coverage area to have winning records -- each were rewarded for winning seasons with strong showings on the Southeast Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters all-region football team.

St. Vincent finished with four first-team players in Class 1, while Jackson had seven first-team members on the Class 4-5 list.

Jackson senior Cole Jansen made first team at both offensive and defensive lineman. Fellow senior Eric Englehart also made first-team on the offensive line.

Jansen and Englehart helped senior teammate Joel Penrod lead the area with 1,097 yards rushing. Penrod scored 18 touchdowns and finished with 112 points. Penrod earned first-team honors at both running back and punter.

Other first-team members from Jackson included sophomore defensive lineman Adam Collier, senior linebacker Drew Lowes, senior linebacker Brandon Beck and senior defensive back Jordan Sneathen.

Waylon Richardet, a senior, made first team at three different positions. Richardet earned first-team honors at running back, linebacker and punter. Offensively, Richardet rushed for 793 yards and 11 touchdowns, and added 12 catches for 231 yards and four touchdowns. Richardet finished with 16 touchdowns overall.

St. Vincent senior Ben Buchheit was first team on the offensive and defensive line. Junior defensive back Greg Finger and senior kicker Jonathan Buehler also made first team for St. Vincent.

Central senior Ty Craft made first team at both wide receiver and defensive back. Craft led area receivers with 34 catches for 453 yards.

Scott City offensive lineman Michael Yetman was also first team.
