The Jackson softball team received offensive and defensive heroics from sophomore Erica Gray to squeeze out a wild 12-10 win over visiting Naylor Friday afternoon.

Jackson (5-6) scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to wipe out a 10-8 deficit and prevail in the contest that featured 17 hits and 12 errors.

Gray went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs. She also turned in a potential game-saving defensive gem, making a spectacular catch at the left-field fence with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the seventh.

"It was a great catch, a winning catch," Jackson coach Ashley Litzelfelner said.

Freshman Sophie Wunderlich was the winning pitcher with three innings of one-run relief. She also went 2 for 2 with a double.

Saxony Lutheran 8, Twin Rivers 6

Saxony Lutheran scored all its runs in the fourth inning to wipe out a 3-0 deficit.

Ashley Steck pitched a complete-game four-hitter and worked around seven errors. She struck out two and walked two.

The Crusaders (6-3) had nine hits, led by Steck with two doubles. Ashlynn Collier and Logan Welker added two hits apiece.

Jackson goes 1-0-1

Jackson beat Woodland 25-21, 25-24 and split with Advance 19-25, 25-14 during Friday's pool play at the Dig For Life Challenge.

Hailey Mouser had five kills, seven digs and three aces against Woodland. Autumn Reid had seven kills and two blocks, Maci McCuan added eight assists and Olivia Leible posted two blocks.

Hailey Mouser recorded six kills and eight digs against Advance. Kayla Thurman had five kills, McKinzie Scott nine assists and Maci McCuan five aces.

FOOTBALL

Perryville suffered its first loss of the season Friday night, falling to visiting Potosi.

The Pirates and Trojans are both 2-1.

Valle 48, St. Vincent 0

Perennial powerhouse Ste. Genevieve Valle Catholic improved to 3-0 and dropped the host Indians to 1-2 with Friday night's romp.

The Warriors have won the past six meetings against St. Vincent by a combined score of 294-36.
