The Jackson Indians softball team notched win number 18 with a 9-1 win over the Farmington Black Knights on Wednesday at the Jackson City Park. Jackson’s record now stands at 18-2 with those losses coming at the hands of fellow Class 5 schools Rock Bridge and Lee’s Summit West.

The game started as many of the Indian’s games this season have with Jackson jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first and never looking back. Senior Kam Tucker and sophomore Madalyn Stelling led the Indians on offense, each going 3-4 with four RBIs including a Stelling home run shot in the fifth.

Jackson head coach Shawn Wilding said both Tucker and Stelling are hitting the ball well and he is glad to see more bats heating up.

“It’s good to get Stelling going, she's not quite on pace with where she was last year but she's starting to heat up at the right time,” Wilding said. “The bats are carrying us right now and then when we're getting those bats that are a little cooler going, it's even better than that. We’re hitting on all cylinders which is definitely hard to beat when you have to get all nine hitters out.”

Sophomore pitcher Ashlyn Dawes pitched the full game for the Indians and finished with an impressive stat line of six strikeouts, two walks and just one earned run on three hits. Wilding said Dawes has pitched well the whole season and they usually have a good day when she is in the circle.

“She's been good. She looked real good today and hit good spots,” Wilding said. “Dawes competes and she did her best for us today and she really battled.”

Jackson will host the Jackson Tournament on Friday and Saturday where the Indians will take on Naylor, Doniphan and Hillsboro.
