Jackson seniors sign with Southeast Missouri State women's basketball program

Two Jackson High School seniors who verbally committed to the Southeast Missouri State women's basketball team several weeks ago made it official Wednesday.

Connor King, a 6-foot-2 forward/center, and 5-8 combo guard Dru Haertling signed letters of intent on the opening day of the NCAA's weeklong early signing period.

King and Haertling, both entering their fourth year of varsity play for the Indians, helped Jackson compile a 35-14 record over the past two seasons.

King averaged 11 points and 9.4 rebounds per game as a junior last year. Haertling averaged 9.8 points, 2.4 steals, 1.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists.

Southeast's compliance department had not yet approved all the paperwork from King and Haertling late Wednesday night. First-year Southeast coach Ty Margenthaler is prohibited by NCAA regulations from commenting on the signings until that happens, which should be today.

Other Southeast women's basketball signees that should be announced today are two more high school seniors, 5-11 guard Olivia Hackman from Jefferson City, Mo., and 5-10 guard Kara Wright from Louisville, Ky. They verbally committed to the Redhawks in recent weeks.
