Just one win shy of the championship round, the Jackson Senior Legion Post 158 baseball team will now play for its life after coming up short on Friday in the Senior Legion Zone 4 Tournament, falling to host Ste. Genevieve 13-3.
Post 150 rallied from a 3-2 deficit with nine runs in the top of the seventh inning to break things open, finishing with 14 hits.
Jackson did itself no favors with five errors, including one during the back-breaking seventh inning.
Post 158 scored one run in each of the first, second and fifth innings, Nathan Hurst driving in Drew Brown in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-2 lead.
It didn't hold, as Zach Elfrink took the loss on the mound, giving up six runs (five earned) on 10 hits, striking out two and walking one in 6 1/3 innings of work.
Garrett Thele, Triston Thele and Coley Leimbach all appeared in relief.
Andrew Basler took the pitching victory for Ste. Genevieve, going eight innings and scattering seven hits while striking out four. Matt Luttrell threw one inning of scoreless relief.
The hosts' huge day at the plate was paced by Wyatt Lalumandier, who went 4-for-6 with two runs scored, three driven in and a triple.
Southeast Missouri State commit Connor Basler was 3-for-5 with four RBIs, while Koltyn Schilly blasted a home run and had two hits and a pair or runs batted in.
Jackson will play Eureka in an elimination game today at 5 p.m. The winner will then face Ste. Genevieve in a championship round game at 8 p.m.
