Now that the regular season is complete, three local football teams are sill alive: Jackson, Scott City and St. Vincent.
Farther south, New Madrid and Malden have also advanced.
The sectional games will all take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Jackson, a Class 5A school, will play 10th-ranked Mehlville at home. Mehlville blistered previously unbeaten and No. 3 Kirkwood 35-10 Friday night.
Scott City will hook up with Malden at Malden in a 2A sectional after clobbering Charleston 38-6.
St. Vincent, a 42-12 winner over Hayti, will play Lutheran St. Charles at home in 1A. Lutheran St. Charles escaped Cardinal Ritter 30-26 Saturday.
Malden posted a 36-8 win over Portageville for the right to play Scott City again after blowing out the Rams 30-0 in the season opener.
And 10th-ranked New Madrid, the top Class 3A school in the region, will play host to Ste. Genevieve.
Milestone for FredericktownFor the first time since 1984, Fredericktown ended its season with more wins than losses after the Black Cats manhandled Kennett 27-7 at home Friday night."It was a big win for us," Fredericktown coach Kent Gibbs said. "It was a big win for our program. The seniors went out with style and hopefully we can build on this season for next year."Fredericktown lost all four of its games this year to state-ranked teams which were all 9-1.
On Friday night, Fredericktown lit up Kennett (7-3) for 350 yards rushing and 393 total.
Chaffee runs a fade routeAfter showing Southeast Missouri that it was a team on the rise, Chaffee fizzled somewhat down the stretch.
Following a 47-30 loss to Hayti, the Red Devils lost 52-28 to 0-9 Valle of Ste. Genevieve Thursday night and ended its season at 3-7."You start 3-3 and people start getting into our success and improvement. But with improvement comes pressure," Chaffee coach Allan Horrell said. "I don't know if it was about being afraid of stepping up or what. But they haven't been in that position before. I'm very pleased with the year we had. The kids did an outstanding job all year. We won three games and we took some teams down to the wire and surprised some people."As for Thursday night's game, "We thought it was a game we could win," Horrell said. "(Tommy) Stidham breaks a 75-yard run on the first possession and everybody is excited. But they took it right back down the field on us and it went downhill from there."Stidham, among the Red Devil seniors playing their final game, put up the best numbers of his career. He had 310 yards and four touchdowns on 27 carries. By halftime, he had 202 yards. He also returned a kickoff 38 yards.
Paulus throws Hayti for lossJonathan Paulus completed nine of 11 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns as St. Vincent made easy work of Hayti, 42-12 Friday night to claim the Class 1A, District 1 championship.
St. Vincent improved to 9-1 on the season.
Paulus hit Justin Amschler from 8 yards out and Cory Strattman from 9 yards out for his two touchdown throws.
Someone else's turnJosh Hudson ran for 107 yards on 19 carries as Perryville (4-6) ended a long season with a 14-0 win over De Soto Thursday night.
Perryville standout running back Shawn Statler was limited to 50 yards on 17 carries.
Hudson scored a touchdown from 3 yards out and Matt Tucker scored from the 1-yard line.
Robinson breaks recordSikeston running back Justin Robinson broke the Sikeston career-rushing record Thursday night when he ran for 206 yards and four touchdowns on 24 carries in the Bulldogs' 52-15 win over Potosi.
Robinson, who needed just 95 yards to break the record, finished the season with 2,030 yards and 28 touchdowns and finished his career with 3,124.
