DEXTER -- Jackson High's football team continued its perfect season Friday night as the Indians routed host Dexter 35-6.
The Indians improved to 7-0 heading into next Friday's Class 5A, District 1 opener with arch-rival Cape Central. The Bearcats fell to 2-5.
Jackson totally dominated the contest, piling up about 350 yards of offense, including more than 300 yards on the ground. Meanwhile, the Indians' defense limited Dexter to a little more than 100 yards.
The Indians got another huge game from standout tailback Devree Flint, who was credited by Dexter statisticians with 208 yards rushing on 22 carries. Flint scored four touchdowns, all on short runs.
Todd Wessel also scored for the Indians while Justin Keen kicked all five extra points. Wessel and Ryan Propst both finished with around 60 yards rushing.
Jackson led 21-0 at halftime, thanks to Wessel's 11-yard touchdown run and Flint's TD runs of 4 yards and 1 yard.
The Indians made it 35-0 in the third quarter as Flint scored from 4 yards and 3 yards. After that, it was clear-the-bench time for Jackson.
Although Dexter rarely threatened Jackson's end zone with a drive, the Indians lost their shutout late in the third period when a bad snap on a punt rolled into the end zone and was covered by Dexter's T.J. Riddle.
