A long day at the Farmington Invitational brought a pair of losses and a fourth-place finish Saturday for the Jackson girls basketball team.

After two days of postponements and the cancellation of the consolation bracket due to power outages caused by a winter storm that swept through Farmington, Jackson got under way at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the semifinals against No. 1 Belleville (Ill.) East.

The fourth-seeded Indians fell 46-39 to the Lancers.

Jackson played in the third-place game at 4 p.m., and the Indians squandered a late lead for a 65-63 loss to No. 2 Lutheran South.

The Indians trailed 34-31 heading into the fourth quarter in the semifinal game, but could not come back. Amanda Peiffer led Jackson with 16 points.

In the third-place game, Jackson led by five points with less than 2 minutes remaining, but could not hold off Lutheran South. Peiffer led the Indians once again with 17 points. Gabrielle Garritano added 16 points, and Ashley Charboneau had 11 points.

Lutheran South outscored Jackson 16-8 in the final period.

"Right now we're struggling a little bit, but there's a long way to go," Jackson coach Sam Sides said.
