CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Jackson's baseball team continued its recent strong play as the Indians routed Charleston 20-1 Tuesday in a game stopped after five innings by the run rule.

The Indians posted their third straight victory and improved their record to 6-4.

"We're playing better and I hope we can keep it up," Jackson coach Sam Sides said. "We've been hitting the ball well."

Josh Parham, in his first varsity start, pitched three innings for the victory. Josh Snell hurled the final two frames in scoreless fashion.

Jackson banged out 17 hits, led by Austin McDowell with three. Bryan Austin, Michael Birk, Brendon Jones and Trevor Thompson all had two hits.

Chaffee 3, Woodland 2

MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Chaffee (7-4) manufactured a run in the top of the 10th inning to slip past Woodland.

Andrew Horrell walked with one out, stole second and third, then came home with the game-winner on a wide throw.

Woodland's Kyle Long, who struck out 16 in eight innings, and Chaffee's Zac Horman matched pitch for pitch as each gave up only six hits and two runs.

Horman (5-1) picked up the win with nine innings of work, while Alex VanGennip took the loss in relief.

Danny Grippo homered in the fourth inning for Woodland's second run and Chaffee's Sam Burnett led all hitters with two hits, including a double.

Oran 32, SCC 0

MORLEY, Mo. -- Oran ripped 25 hits and held Scott County Central hitless as the Eagles (7-1) romped in five innings.

Ryne Wood and Tyler Nelson combined on the no-hitter, with winner Wood working the first three innings.

Garrett Roslen had four hits and five RBIs, Matt Bucher had three hits and four RBIs and Joey Bickings added two hits and four RBIs. Nathan Seyer had the game's only home run and had two hits. Matt Seyer had three hits while Wood, Nelson, Tyler Cookson and Trey Graviett all added two.

Leopold 2, Advance 0

LEOPOLD, Mo. -- A.J. Seiler fired a four-hit shutout as Leopold slipped past Advance.

The Wildcats (3-3) scored both their runs in the third inning, on RBI singles by Lucas Horrell and Scott VanGennip.

Eric O'Hare had two hits for the Hornets.

Oak Ridge 15, Meadow Heights 5

OAK RIDGE, Mo. -- Josh Morrison had four hits, Clayton Ruesler added three and Zach Ruesler contributed two as Oak Ridge (3-3) won in six innings.

Zach Ruesler was the winning pitcher.

Festus 9, St. Vincent 0

FESTUS, Mo. -- St. Vincent, which won the Class 1A state championship two years ago and placed second last season, continued to struggle.

The Indians (0-9) remained winless as they suffered a no-hitter at the hands of two Festus pitchers. Freshman Alex Armbruster suffered the loss.

Kelly 20, Portageville 0

PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. -- Kelly Essner threw a no-hitter as the Hawks improved to 8-0.

Essner pitched all four innings, striking out nine and walking one. Kara Scherer had a double and two RBIs and Dana Essner added two RBIs for the Hawks.

Oran 19, SCC 1

MORLEY, Mo. -- Danielle Klipfel pitched a no-hitter as Oran routed Scott County Central in four innings.

Ashley Dirnberger tripled and doubled for the Eagles (5-1-1) while Klipfel added two hits.

Chaffee 13, Malden 1

MALDEN, Mo. -- Abby Walter had four RBIs and Crystal Morgan added three to back Shannon Hampton's two-hit pitching as Chaffee won in five innings. Hampton struck out eight.

The Devils (7-1) got two hits from Walter, Morgan, Brandie Snider, Callie Meyr and Kate Pfefferkorn.

SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Scott City (5-3-1) went hitless against undefeated New Madrid County Central (12-0).

Heather Robey picked up the win, while Shana Wadlington (3-1) took the loss.

Robey and Abby Sexton led NMCC with three hits each.

Leopold 15, Advance 5

LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Kyla Horrell's home run helped Leopold remain undefeated.

Horrell, Lori Vandermierden and Wendy Vandeven all had two hits for the Wildcats (5-0). Melinda Trankle pitched her fifth straight victory.

Oak Ridge 13, Meadow Heights 3

OAK RIDGE, Mo. -- Laura Glueck allowed three hits and struck out nine as she pitched Oak Ridge (3-3-1) past Meadow Heights (0-5) in six innings.

Jenny Hrabik, Mindy Ruch, Candice Schaper and Melinda Schoen all had two hits for Oak Ridge.

GIRLS' SOCCER

Notre Dame 1, St. Vincent 0

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Sierra Ellis scored with about 15 minutes left in the game, on an assist from Amanda Dirnberger, to lift Notre Dame (5-2-1) past St. Vincent (2-7-1).

Bulldogs' goalkeeper Katie Palmer recorded the shutout.

Jackson 6, Farmington 0

JACKSON, Mo. -- Molly Hartmann scored three goals to lead Jackson's rout.

The Indians (7-1) also received goals from Dana Wright, Katie Biri and Ashley Bartels. Jamie Vines and Liz Nussbaum had assists while Whitney Werner got the shutout.

Jackson's JV won 4-0 behind two goals from Jessie Bolen. Jenny Nagel and Erica Floyd had the other goals.

Carbondale 2, Perryville 0

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- After an emotional win over Carbondale in the Fralish Cup Tournament championship Saturday, Perryville (9-2) came out a little flat against the same opponent.

Sarah Landt and Angela Turini scored unassisted second-half goals for Carbondale.

Jackson wins triangular

JACKSON, Mo. -- Jackson continued its strong season by winning a triangular at Kimbeland Country Club.

The Indians (9-1) scored 153 to beat Central, 164, and Clearwater, 182.

Jackson's Kyle Perry earned medalist honors with a 37.

Notre Dame 170, NMCC 211

JACKSON, Mo. -- Tim Buerck shot a 40 as Notre Dame (5-4) prevailed at Bent Creek Golf Course.

Perryville boys prevail

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo.-- Perryville's boys continued their strong season by winning another major meet, this time taking the 14-team Ste. Genevieve Invitational.

The Pirates scored 102.5 points to knock off Potosi (90.5). Jackson (52) placed fifth.

Perryville's Kevin Bohnert won both the 100-meters and long jump while Chris Porter captured the triple jump.

Jackson winners were Stuart McIntosh (pole vault) and James Fortner (110 hurdles).

The girls' portion of the meet will be Thursday.

Notre Dame girls win

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Notre Dame's girls won a triangular meet hosted by Sikeston while Notre Dame's boys finished second.

Notre Dame's girls won eight events and the boys captured two events.-- From staff reports
