ST. LOUIS -- Jackson High's volleyball team defeated University City 15-4, 15-4 in the sectional round, then fell to Cor Jesu 15-3, 15-6 in the quarterfinal match Saturday at Seckman High School.

"They're a pretty tough team," Jackson coach Nancy Ellis said. "They have a strong line. We went in kind of tentative, but we gave them a good game in the second game."

Against Cor Jesu, Jennifer Mesey led the way with five kills, while Jessica Koeper and Jenna Leet had four apiece. Koeper also had 10 digs and Erin Hartmann posted three kills and six assists.

In Jackson's win over University City, Mesey and Koeper each had five kills, Leet had four aces and Hartmann had seven assists.

Jackson ended its season at 22-11-1.

Class 1A sectional

ADVANCE, Mo. -- Meadow Heights and Winona met for the championship of the Class 1A sectional for the second time in two years.

Unfortunately for the Lady Panthers, the results were the same as Winona prevailed 15-13, 15-13.

The loss ends Meadow Heights season at 27-5 and sends Winona (30-4-1), second in state in 1A last season, to the state championships at Warrensburg, Mo., Saturday.

In semifinal action, Meadow Heights defeated Holcomb 15-10, 15-3, while Winona reached the final with a 15-6, 15-5 win over Bernie.
