All seven of Jackson's state-qualifying wrestlers survived opening day action Thursday at the state wrestling tournament at the Hearnes Center in Columbia, Mo.
Four wrestlers won their opening matches while three others came back from first-round losses to post wrestleback victories.
Jackson stands sixth in the Class 3 team standings at the conclusion of the first day of the three-day meet.
Jackson's Brock Howard pinned Shane Miller of Hillcrest at 140 pounds. Greg Ludwig also opened up with a pin at 152 pounds for Jackson against Ritenour's Jeff Nagle.
Cody Rouse had the toughest opening-round victory for Jackson, winning an 11-7 decision against Lee's Summit's Lucas Fix. Kremer Rampley remained undefeated at 46-0 with a 16-5 major decision over Rock Bridge's Will Martin.
Blake Ulrich (171 pounds), Kamden Rampley (189 pounds) and Andy Glass (215 pounds) lost opening-round matches -- all by fall -- but stayed alive.
Ulrich was pinned by Jeff Bowman of Blue Springs in his opening match but responded with a 16-5 major decision over Chris Schaefer of Hilllcrest.
Kamden Rampley lost by pin at the hands of Parkway North's Matt Lawrence before responding with a 7-3 decision over Ryan Hanify of Washington.
Glass, after being pinned by Pat Akley of Rolla, pinned Kenny Stewart of Hazelwood East.
For Central, the opening day of Class 2 action was a rough one.
Senior Jonathon Poston was eliminated in the 125-pound weight class. He lost a 5-2 decision to Kylar Ponder of Carl Junction in the first round and then was pinned by Michael Dunkum of Platte County in the wrestlebacks.
Junior Cory Huskey, wrestling at 152, also lost in the first round. After suffering an 18-12 loss to Andrew Wood of Hannibal, though, he won his wrestleback opener by forfeit.GIRLS BASKETBALL
Perryville 42, Central 39
Perryville overtook Central in the final minute, moving ahead for good on April Lorenz's basket for a home victory.
Lorenz, who finished with 18 points, added a pair of free throws with 11 seconds left to help seal the win. Amber Hacker added 15 points for Perryville (18-6).
Megan McDonald scored a game-high 20 points for Central (6-18).
