The Jackson Post 158 Senior American Legion baseball team suffered just its fourth loss of the season Sunday afternoon.
It prevented Jackson from reaching the championship game of the rugged Washington (Mo.) wood-bat tournament.
Jackson was beaten 9-6 by undefeated Jefferson City in the semifinal round of the 15-team event hosted by defending Senior Legion state champion Washington.
Post 158, which went 3-1 Thursday through Saturday to win its five-team pool, fell to 21-4. No third-place game was held.
Jackson trailed 5-1 after three innings but rallied for a 6-5 lead entering the bottom of the sixth. Jefferson City scored four times to go back ahead 9-6 and closed out the victory by blanking Jackson in the top of the seventh.
Both teams had nine hits and committed two errors. Steven Porzelt led Jackson with two doubles and a triple. Kyle James drove in two runs.
Jackson returns to action with a home doubleheader at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Legion Field against District 14 rival Cape Girardeau Ford and Sons Post 63.
Post 158 is 4-0 in district play, having won the first of two regular-season meetings against each of the other four District 14 squads.
The Cape Girardeau Plaza Tire Post 63 Junior Legion team split a doubleheader Sunday with visiting Eureka.
Cape (12-15) dropped the opener 9-6 and won the nightcap 7-6.
Hayden Lynn suffered the first-game loss. Connor McGarr went 2 for 2 and walked twice. Kaleb Ward stole two bases.
Noah Dillingham drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning of the finale and notched a save.
McGarr had two RBIs, while Ward was the winning pitcher in relief.
