Chris Leimer turned in a dominating performance Thursday, striking out 16 batters and throwing a one-hitter, as Jackson Senior Babe Ruth defeated Dexter Senior Babe Ruth 10-3 in the first round of the Firecracker Classic at Capaha Park.
Leimer took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, where he saw his bid fall short. Jackson did improve to 15-5 while Dexter fell to 6-4.
Matt Mangels, Adam Click and Josh Adams each had two hits as Jackson collected eight overall.
SEMO Bank falls in tourney
KIRKWOOD -- Anheuser-Busch posted a 4-3 victory over SEMO Bank Junior Legion Thursday in the first round of the Kirkwood Fourth of July Tournament.
Todd Hansen suffered the loss, allowing six hits in six inning. He struck out six and walked six.
SEMO Bank, which scored both its runs off wild pitches, mustered just three hits on the game. Jon Livingston, Ross Bennett and Gabe Wunderlich provided the safeties.
SIKESTON -- Chaffee's Junior Legion baseball team swept Sikeston in a doubleheader played Wednesday, winning 11-3 and 5-3.
Denver Stuckey allowed just three hits in the opener. Jason Harrell provided two of Chaffee's five hits.
Ryan LeGrand struck out 11 batters in the nightcap and allowed just two hits. Stuckey led an eight-hit attack with two hits.
Chaffee, 30-10 overall and 12-4 in league, returns to action today in the Blytheville Tournament.
