The Jackson Indians baseball defeated the Sikeston Bulldogs 12-2 in six innings on Thursday at Jackson Stadium. Sikeston kept things close at 3-1 through the top half of the fifth before the Indians exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings.

Caleb Nenninger got things going for the Indians with an RBI double in the second, scoring Jaiden Glency. Drew Parsons and Grant Brown each grounded out to short but Nenninger and Garrison Brown each came around to score. Jackson head coach Josh Roach said the team had some trouble getting going but credited the pitching and defense with keeping them in the game.

“We just couldn't quite get things going early but were really proud of our defense and our pitchers. We finally got going on offense later in the game and we started to get some guys on getting some with some base hits,” Roach said. “So it was a little bit of an off day but overall when you get a W it's got to be a pretty good day.”

Adrian Fox was awarded the win for the Indians going four innings with three strikeouts to just one walk and gave up one hit. Brody Nall took the loss for Sikeston giving up three runs on three hits.

A Cooper Rhodes single scored two for the Indians in the bottom of the sixth before a Peyton Kight walk and a Bulldog error scored three more, giving the Indians the run-rule victory. Roach said the team improved their at-bats late in the game and got more baserunners on.

“I think we were taking a little better approach at the plate and had a pretty good idea of what we were trying to accomplish,” Roach said. “Guys were able to put us in positions where we could put a little pressure on them and we got a couple of hits and kind of broke through.”

Jackson will travel to Kentucky on Saturday for three games against Lyon County, Mount Vernon and Warren East.
