The Jackson boys basketball team finished 3-0 in the Farmington Tournament with a 75-66 victory against rival Central on Saturday.

Jack Puisis led all scorers with 22 points for the Indians. Aaron Redecker added 16 points for Jackson.

"We won some games which is good, and we found some things we need to work on which is good," Jackson coach Darrin Scott said of the tournament.

Central (0-3) was led by Alex Ray's 18 points. Darnell Wilks added 13 points, Anthony Hempstead had 11 and Garrett Ozbun had 10.

Whitfield 59, Notre Dame 46

Notre Dame fell to 1-2 after managing just 46 points on the road.

Jeremy Brinkmeyer led the Bulldogs with 13 points.

Notre Dame had lost to MICDS 77-55 on Friday. Brinkmeyer led with 13 points, Alex Ressel scored 12 and John Eric Klein scored 10.

GIRLS BASKETBALL Farmington Tournament

Jackson won the Farmington Tournament with a 49-47 win over Poplar Bluff.

The Indians (6-0) have now won back-to-back tournaments, including a season-opening title at the Zizzer Classic.

Kylie Werner led Jackson with 16 points, Kelly Loos scored 15 and Bobbie Jones had 14. Jackson led by as many as 13 in the third quarter before holding off a late Mules charge.

WRESTLING Parkway South Tournament

Jackson had two first-place finishers and ended up third of 11 teams at the Parkway South Tournament.

Fort Zumwalt West finished first with 375.5 points, Lee's Summit was second with 326.5 and Jackson followed with 279.5

Cody Rouse finished first at 152 pounds, and Kamden Rampley was first at 189. Sean Gant finished second at 140. Fourth-place finishers included Justin Miller (119), Josh Schumacher (130), Ben McMillan (135) and Dustin Fluegge (275). Andy Glass finished fifth (215), and Arik Coffel (125) and Jordan Barnhart (145) each placed sixth.

In the junior varsity division, Jackson finished second as a team, 40 points behind Fort Zumwalt West. Parkway South finished behind Jackson. The Indians JV had three winnners in Russell Brown (140), Drew Lowes (189) and Cole Jansen (275).

Bryan Sladek (119) and Anthony Werner (152) were second. James Perkins (130), Jake Schepper (145), Demarcus Huddleston (171) and Joel Penrod (215) finished fourth. Sam Master (103) and Josh Conklin (135) finished fifth.

Fox Tournament

Central had four wrestlers finish 4-0, as the Tigers finished 1-3 in dual meets at the Fox Tournament.

Tyler Yeargain (130 pounds), Dan Coonce (135 pounds), Cory Huskey (160 pounds) and Ryan Davis (189 pounds) were all perfect Saturday. Chris Griffith (112 pounds) and Matt Latham (119 pounds) each finished 3-1. Brandon Reynolds finished 2-2 at 103 pounds.

In dual matches Central beat Hazelwood East 45-22, lost to Pattonville 40-30, lost to Wentzville 39-27 and lost to Parkway West 36-34.

The Tigers will host Carbondale on Tuesday then travel to Ste. Genevieve on Thursday.

BOYS SWIMMING

Cape Rock Invitational

Central finished fourth in the first annual Cape Rock Invitational held at the Central Municipal Pool.

The Tigers finished with 252 points. Glendale (461), Lindbergh (437) and Parkway South (325) grabbed the top three spots. Central's medley relay had the top finish in third. Daniel Austin, Peyton Waggener, Jason Mercer and Hunter Givens made up the relay team.

  • The Central boys junior varsity basketball team finished third in the Perryville Tournament with a 49-47 win over Notre Dame. Jajuan Bell finished with 16 points, and Blake Slattery had 14 for the Tigers (4-2).
