MURPHYSBORO (Ill.) - Mindful of the upcoming Parkway South dual, Jackson High wrestling coach Bruce Thomas was looking for an impressive outing Tuesday night.

He wasn't disappointed.

Eight Indian wrestlers registered pins as the Jackson wrestling team rolled over Murphysboro, Ill., 58-18, on the road here Tuesday night.

"We wrestled extremely well," Thomas said after the triumph. "We were very aggressive, which was good to see heading into a big dual like the one Thursday against Parkway South.

"We had a lot of pins in the varsity match and that was real good to see," said Thomas, whose team is now 4-1 in dual competition. "Another match ended 14-1.

"Another two points would have given us a technical fall so we nearly had nine pins. I was pleased."

Every match but one was decided by a fall or forfeit.

Jackson won the first eight matches of the dual to take the initiative.

Jeff Edmunds gave a sign of things to come with a second-period pin at 103 before Randy Koehler came up with a 14-1 major decision over Travis Kimmel.

Josh Gast, Chris Hinze and Jeff Criddle all came away with easy first-period pins at 112, 119 and 125, respectively, before Andy Hancock won by a forfeit at 135.

Todd Reiminger and Chris Jaco kept the falls coming with pins at 140 and 145 before Murphysboro was able to pick up any team points.

That came when the Red Devils got pins at 152 and 160 before Jackson's Len Waldron and Larry Woods picked up second-period falls at 171 and 189 to finish off the Indians' scoring.

Murphysboro won the heavyweight match when Duncan Sherrill pinned James Hamlin in the first period.

But Thomas was even impressed with the wrestlers who lost on Tuesday. "Our three wrestlers who lost all lost to very good people," he said. "I think tonight everyone wrestled well."

Jackson also came away with an impressive decision in the junior varsity match, winning handily 78-0.
