Jackson's girls track and field team took first place at Friday's Poplar Bluff Invitational, slipping past second-place Central. The Indians scored 160 points to 139.5 for the Tigers.
Trisha Kluesner won both hurdle events, and Heather West won the long jump and triple jump to lead Jackson. Rachel Lowes captured the 400. Jackson also dominated the relay events, winning all but the 3,200.
For Central's girls, Jennifer Pancoast won the 800 and 1,600, Vicki Wilson won the 200, and Ashley Colon captured the shot put. The Tigers' 3,200 relay team also prevailed.
On the boys side, Central was fourth and Jackson sixth.
Central's Jeremiah Dukes won the triple jump. For Jackson, James Fortner won both hurdle events, and Stuart McIntosh claimed the pole vault.
GIRLS SWIMMING
Central finishes 11th
Central placed 11th out of 21 teams Saturday at the Meet of Champions in Springfield, Mo.
Central was without any seniors due to the prom, but still managed to finish in the top 10 in four events.
The 200-yard freestyle relay (Cassie Kipper, Hannah Lewis, Sara Goeke, Amanda Dewrock) team placed seventh with a time of 1:53.72. The 400 freestyle relay team (Kipper, Lewis, Goeke, Dani Fee) was also seventh in 4:15.46.
Kipper was ninth in the 200 individual medley in 2:25.89 while the 200 medley relay team (Brianna LeGrand, Brett Ford, Jessi Yarbro, Dewrock) finished 10th in 2:12.17.
Central will have its last regular-season meet Monday, hosting Notre Dame and Mehlville.
GIRLS SOCCER
Jackson 1, Belleville West 1
Jackson began the game without five of its starters for a variety of reasons -- including injuries and disciplinary measures -- but came away from Belleville, Ill., with a tie Saturday.
Courtney Urhahn scored 19 minutes into the first half on an assist from Whitney Dietl. The Indians are 13-2-1.
OTHER EVENTS
Central's ninth grade boys track team won Saturday's 10-team Jackson Invitational.
Clayton Hill won the 75 (12.17) and 300 (46.16) hurdles. Other winners for Central were John Kipper in the 3,200 (11:49.08), Beau Jordan in the 400 (55.43), Jared Thomas in the high jump (5-6), Drew Elizadle in the discus (112-2), Tanner Rust in the pole vault (11-6), the 800 relay team (1:38.75) and the 1,600 relay team (3:52.19).
Central's seventh grade girls finished second in the meet. Nadia Cox won the long jump (14-1) and Lindsey Pingel won the pole vault (6-8).
Central's eighth grade girls placed fourth. Nicole Jackson won the 400 (1:03).
Central's eighth grade boys took second behind Jackson. Allen Walker won the 100 dash (11.83). Tyler Terry won the triple jump (35-11). Conrad Brown took first in the pole vault (10-0). Tony Preston placed first in the shot put (42-3).
