Jackson's girls basketball team jumped out to a 20-4 lead early in the second quarter and held to beat Visitation 43-36 Monday at the Martin Luther King Classic at Maryville University in St. Louis.

The Indians (12-2) held Michigan-recruit Katie Dierdorf to eight first-half points and climbed out to a 23-14 halftime lead. Dierdorf scored all 14 of Visitation's third-quarter points, but Jackson did not give up the lead.

"We had a hard time controlling Dierdorf," Jackson coach Sam Sides said. "The third quarter she kind of took over."

Ashley Bartels was Jackson's lone double-figure scorer with 14 points.

Dierdorf led all scorers with 26 points.

The Hawks (8-5) trailed 23-19 at halftime and were still behind 35-32 after three quarters before rallying.

Kelly Essner led a balanced scoring attack for Kelly with 10 points. Christy Laxton and Amanda Raines led Scott City with 12 points each.

Paducah Tilghman 56, Notre Dame 46

Notre Dame fell to traditional Kentucky powerhouse Paducah Tilghman in the opening round of the Superman Classic in Metropolis, Ill.

The Bulldogs (3-14) stayed within striking distance of Tilghman (10-4) for most of the game and even pulled to within 32-30 late in the third quarter. Tilghman outscored Notre Dame 22-14 in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

"Defensively we did a good job of rebounding and taking care of the ball, we just haven't been shooting well," Notre Dame coach Darrin Scott said.

Bryce Willen led Notre Dame with 17 points and Alex Ressel had 11.
