ST. LOUIS -- Ladue scored 17 points in the fourth quarter to rally for a 31-21 victory over Jackson in a Class 5 Quarterfinal football game Saturday at Saint Louis University High School.
Jackson (10-2) saw a five-game winning streak end in closing its year in the quarterfinals for the second straight year.
Ladue (12-1) won its fourth straight in advancing to the state semifinals.
Jackson trailed 14-7 at halftime, but the Indians scored on their final two possessions of the third quarter to take a 21-14 lead. Ty Crowden pulled in an 18-yard pass from Dante Vandeven to tie the game at 14-14 with 3 minutes, 20 seconds left in the period, and Bryndan Reid gave Jackson its first lead on a 23-yard run with 14 seconds left in the period.
Ladue tied the score at 21-21 less than a minute into the final quarter on a 33-yard pass from Jack Fox to James Bell. It was the start of a 17-0 fourth quarter for Ladue, which had advanced to the quarterfinals by outscoring Webster Groves 21-0 in the final period of a 34-28 comeback win in the sectional round.
Jackson gambled on its ensuing possession, going for a fourth-and-1 play from its own 29. The Indians were stopped and Ladue took over with about 10 minutes left in the game.
The Rams marched all the way to the Jackson 1, but were thrwarted on their own fourth-down play. However, the Rams would force the Indians to punt and regained possession at the Jackson 37.
The ensuing six-play drive was capped on a 4-yard scoring run by Daylen Edwards with 3:18 left to put Ladue ahead for good. Edwards finished the game with a game-high 198 yards rushing on 31 carries.
Fox secured the win with a 35-yrd field goal with :55 left for a 31-21 lead.
