Jackson claims first win against Central

~ The Indians controlled play in a 3-0 victory.

The Jackson girls soccer team suffered three losses in a St. Louis area tournament over the weekend, but the Indians showed no ill effects on Tuesday in a 3-0 win over visiting Central.

Jackson (1-3) dominated play from start to finish, and appeared crisp in all aspects of the game.

"The weekend games we went and played, those are good for us to play those types of teams," Jackson coach Zack Walton said. "We need to see who we're going to play at the end of the year.

"We just wanted to make sure we came out here, came back and played well. I thought we played good. We had a lot of good possession, I thought we were aggressive to the ball, and our backs played good. We played good across the board. It's a good way to start off the year."

Bobbi Jo Schlick put the Indians on the board with a penalty kick goal midway through the first half.

Schlick made it 2-0 about 10 minutes later on a feed from Erin Curtis.

"That was just a good goal," Walton said. "Three or four good passes to get that. That was fun to watch."

Lindsay Poole scored Jackson's final goal about midway through the second half.

Central fell to 2-2 with its second straight loss. The Tigers will travel to Harrisburg, Ill., on Thursday before hosting St. Louis power Ursuline Academy on Saturday.

"Most of what we did tonight was kick the ball hard and run and chase, instead of possessing and making good passes, which Jackson did," Central coach Tom Doyle said.
