JACKSON, Mo. -- Jackson High School's softball team heads into district play with momentum as it posted a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over district rival Cape Central on Tuesday.

Trailing 2-0 in the sixth inning, Jackson (11-14) scored one run in the bottom of the sixth and two in their final at-bat to edge Cape Central (12-13).

Jennie Schlick scored Jackson's third run on a throwing error by the Lady Tiger catcher on a putout attempt at third base. As the throw eluded the shortstop covering the bag, Schlick trotted home with the game winner.

Jackson coach Julie Rushing credited the pinch-hit single by sophomore Kristen Roberts in the bottom of the sixth as the Lady Indians' key hit of the game.

Said Rushing, "She (Roberts) seems to come through every time for us. That hit got us going and put our speed up, so that we could put more pressure on their defense."

Pinch-runner Natalie Profilet scored the game-tying run on a wild pitch.

Heather Tuschoff picked up the win as she allowed seven hits, walked two and struck out none.

Cape Central's Megan McDonald pitched well in suffering the loss. McDonald gave up only four hits, while striking out four and walking two.

ST. VINCENT 5, DELTA 2

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Amanda Carron's offensive and defensive heroics sealed the deal for St. Vincent (13-11) in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Leading only 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Caitlin Hoeh singled ahead of Carron's two-run homer to send the Squaws up 5-2. Carron, who went 3-for-3 at the plate, came up with a defensive gem, also, as her diving catch in the top of the seventh ended Delta's hopes and the game.

St. Vincent's Caitlin Hoeh and Nicole Hadler chipped in with two hits each.

Julie Hager went the distance for the win allowing four hits with seven strikeouts and five walks.

Sarah Cook, the losing hurler for Delta (9-9), went five innings, giving up six hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

Cook, with two hits on the day, knocked in the Delta runs with an inside-the-park two-run homer. Ashley Martin also had two hits for the Lady Bobcats.
