Jackson's volleyball team improved to 7-1 by beating visiting Cape Girardeau Central 25-13, 25-18 Tuesday night.

Shay Priester led the Indians' offense with nine kills, while Molly Hartmann had eight kills and six blocks. Jennifer Ferrell served 12 points, Katie Loos had 14 assists, Rebecca Martin had 10 digs and Linden Hahs added five digs.

The Tigers had three players with 10 digs or more but lacked a dominant offensive hitter. Julie Underwood led Central with 15 digs. Kaci Pletcher added 13 digs and Andrea Niswonger had 10.

Jackson's JV (4-1) won 25-15, 25-11.

Notre Dame 25-25, Ste. Genevieve 10-9

Kristen Boos had 11 straight service points to serve out the first game for Notre Dame at home.

Sommer McCauley led the Bulldogs (12-2-1) with seven kills and eight digs. McCauley, Alison Essner and Amber Carnes had six assists apiece. Valaree Rutherford and Laura Browne added five kills apiece.

Notre Dame's JV won 25-5, 25-15, and the freshman team lost in three games.

Dexter 25-25, Scott City 23-13

Scott City was swept in two games on the road.

Kacie Cartwright led the Rams (5-7-2) with six kills and added seven digs. Jessica Warren had nine digs.

Scott City's JV lost 25-19, 25-11.

Perryville 18-25-26, Hillsboro 25-9-24

Perryville overcame a slow start to win a three-game thriller at home in its Jefferson County Conference opener.

The Pirates (6-5-1) received 13 kills and three blocks from Kaci Schremp. Jessica Mattingly added five kills, and Lisa Pecaut recorded 14 assists.

Perryville's JV lost 25-23, 12-25, 25-23.

Oran 25-25, Chaffee 15-17

Amber Walter had 10 service points to lead Oran to a road sweep.

Amanda Hurst added six service points for the Eagles (2-7-2) and Carmen Duncan had three kills and four digs.

Oran's JV won 25-19, 25-18.

Oak Ridge 27-25, Zalma 25-19

Amanda King led Oak Ridge to a road win with seven kills.

The Blue Jays (7-6) got five kills apiece from Kelsie Schaper, Haley Ponder and Cassie Ludwig. Vicki Moll added 55 assists for Oak Ridge, and Whitney Roberts had four aces.

BOYS SOCCER

Central 4, Sikeston 0

The Tigers netted all four of their goals in the first 14 minutes of the second half to stay unbeaten with a road win.

Calen Wills opened the flood gates three minutes into the second half when he scored off a pass from Heath Orr. Five minutes later Orr was credited with a goal when a Sikeston player put the ball into his own net. Wills made the score 3-0 two minutes later when he scored off a feed from Jackson Bahn. Ryan Ponder closed the scoring four minutes later on a pass from Jeff Beard.

Tony Leuckel had the shutout for Central (5-0).

Central won the JV game 2-0 on goals by Jesse Pyeatte and Eddie Glenn. Sam Bornstein and Trenton Beckham were credited with assists while Jordan Young recorded the shutout.

Poplar Bluff 1, Notre Dame 0

Notre Dame gave up a goal in the opening minutes of the game and could not recover on the road.

Brandon McMeel kept the Bulldogs (5-3) in the game with eight saves.

Notre Dame's JV (2-0-1) won 4-0. J.P. Thompson, Jack Wedemeier, Austin Gelsheimer and Andrew Beulow had goals. Abe Dirnberger had two assists.

GIRLS TENNIS

Central 6, Jackson 3

Central picked up its second win over Jackson this season after sweeping the doubles play in Jackson.

Central (6-1) and Jackson (3-6) split the singles matches. Kelly Mitchell, Chelsea Walker and Shannon Cobb won for Jackson. Erika Foley, Dani Gross and Brett Ford won singles matches for Central.

Foley-Gross, Liz LaFoe-Ford and Monica Toole-Michaelyn Burns won doubles matches.

Central's JV (6-0) won 17-1.

SOFTBALL

Jackson 5, Poplar Bluff 3

Jackson (5-5) scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie and held on for a home win.

Hannah Fowler pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief for the victory. Fowler had three strikeouts, including one with the bases loaded.

Trisha Kluesner and Kelly Riggs had two hits apiece for Jackson.

Kelly 19, St. Vincent 5

Kelly scored nine runs apiece in the third and fourth innings for a four-inning victory.

Michelle Collins threw the first three innings for the Hawks (7-3). Collins improved to 4-0 after allowing two hits and two earned runs.

Jessica Burnett, Stephanie Hency and Rachel Kline had two hits apiece for Kelly. Burnett added four RBIs.

Delta 5-6, Central JV 3-4

Delta's varsity swept a doubleheader against Central's junior varsity.

Sarah Cook and Tiffany Johnson pitched complete games for the Bobcats (6-1). Cook improved to 4-1, and Johnson is 2-0. Johnson and Kayle Seabaugh each had two hits in the second game.

BASEBALL

Clearwater 9, Woodland 7

After Woodland rallied in the seventh to force extra innings, visiting Clearwater scored twice in the eighth to prevail.

The Cardinals (3-3) had 14 hits but committed five errors. Scott Crader led with three hits, while Kent McCormick doubled twice. Matt Upchurch and Anthony Grojean both added two hits.

Grojean pitched all eight innings, allowing 14 hits but just four earned runs.

FRESHMAN FOOTBALL

Central 14, Farmington 7

Central came from behind to pick up its first win.

The Tigers were down 7-6 at halftime but scored on a 25-yard touchdown run by John Evans to take the lead. Evans ran in the two-point conversion to make it 14-7.

Tyler Terry had the first touchdown for Central on a 35-yard run.
