Jackson advances three wrestlers to Class 4 state quarterfinals

Jackson advanced three wrestlers of its eight wrestlers into the quarterfinal round of the Class 4 competition at the Missouri Wrestling Championships on Thursday at Mizzou Arena in Columbia, Mo.

Advancing were Gus Gulliams at 120 pounds with a 9-0 major decision over Austin Kolvek of Park Hill.

Jake Byrd advanced with a pin of Connor Langdon of Nixa at the 3:38 mark of their 126-pound match. Carson McCord also won by pin in his 170-pound match, defeating Sam Wood of Marquette in 3:11.

Dropping first-round matches for Jackson were Payne Guilliams (138), Micah Collier (145), Gabe Dudley (160), Zach Norrick (195) and Bryce Dickerson (220).

Payne Guilliams, Dudley and Norrick all won first-round wrestleback matches to remain in the competition.

Collier and Dickerson were eliminated from the competition, with Collier losing by medical default.

In Class 2, Notre Dame's Evan Dowdy (113) and Bruce Ha (145) both lost two matches and were elimianted, as was Cape Central's Brendan Wilkins (113) in Class 3.
