Going unbeaten in the Western Athletic Conference earned Boise State a postseason trip, even though the Broncos didn't have to travel far.

Beating a Big 12 opponent will probably get the Broncos' even higher in The Associated Press media poll, where they had never appeared before this season.

No. 18 Boise State (12-1) turned a 10-7 halftime deficit into a 34-16 win in Tuesday's Humanitarian Bowl on a cold and rainy day at Bronco Stadium that didn't discourage fans or the players from enjoying themselves.

The Cyclones (7-7), who opened the season at 6-1, had a 1-6 finish.

Sun Bowl

EL PASO, Texas -- Kyle Orton passed for 283 yards and two touchdowns to help Purdue (7-6) overcome a 17-point deficit and beat Washington 34-24.

Orton set three Sun Bowl records during a 33-27 loss to Washington State last year, but returned to go 25-of-37 with no interceptions and preserve coach Joe Tiller's record of never having a losing season at Purdue.

Liberty Bowl

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Ricky Madison ran for 111 yards and a touchdown as Texas Christian beat No. 23 Colorado State 17-3 Tuesday in the Liberty Bowl.

The victory is the Horned Frogs' 500th victory in school history.

Peach Bowl

ATLANTA -- Scott McBrien ran for two touchdowns and Curome Cox returned an interception 54 yards for another score to lead Maryland to a 20-3 victory over Tennessee.

Nick Kovak kicked three field goals for the Terrapins (11-3), who reached 11 wins for the first time since 1976. They also won a bowl for the first time in 17 years.

San Francisco Bowl

SAN FRANCISCO -- Lee Suggs rushed for two touchdowns, and Ronyell Whitaker forced a fumble near the goal line as time expired to lift No. 21 Virginia Tech to a 20-13 victory over Air Force.

Suggs extended his NCAA record by scoring in his 27th straight game, and Bryan Randall was 18-of-23 for 177 yards for the Hokies (10-4).
