FARMINGTON -- The Jackson Indian basketball team, seeded-second, opened their season Wednesday with a 55-40 victory over No. 3 North County in the Farmington Tournament.

The victory advances the Indians to the championship game Friday against fourth-seed Farmington at the Farmington Civic Center. The Knights upset top-seed Park Hills Central earlier in the evening.

No other details were availible late Wednesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Notre Dame 75, Sikeston 22

The Notre Dame Lady Bulldogs improved to 5-0 with an easy home victory over Sikeston on Wednesday.

Olivia Beel led Notre Dame with 17 points with Rachael Schlosser close behind with 16. Jennifer Glueck added 10 points.

Sikeston had no player score over four points as the Lady Bulldogs fell to 0-2. Notre Dame led 36-6 at halftime.

"The team, as a whole, didn't let up," said Notre Dame coach Jerry Grim. "We played hard and hustled, and that's what we want."

The Lady Bulldogs have the week off before hosting Cape Central Wednesday.

Ste. Genevieve 47, St. Vincent 33

STE. GENEVIEVE -- St. Vincent fell to 0-2 on the season and dropped its first game of the Valle Invitational Tournament on Monday.

The Squaws fell behind 12-2 in the first quarter and never recovered. Sara Cissell led St. Vincent with eight points.

St. Vincent plays Valle tonight and Windsor on Friday in the round-robin tourney.

Jr. High Basketball

Cape Central drops two

CHARLESTON -- The Cape Central Junior High boys teams dropped two games Wednesday at Charleston.

The freshman Tigers fell 36-29, dropping their record to 0-3. The eighth grade's record fell to 0-2 with a 37-25 loss.
