In-game theft adds to Capahas' losses

A National Baseball Congress World Series that began in promising fashion for the Plaza Tire Capahas ended in disappointment -- and not just because they lost their final two games to get bounced from the double-elimination event.

After winning their NBC World Series opener Monday morning, the Capahas played their second game early Thursday morning.

Some time during a 6-2 loss to the Mat-Su Miners of Alaska, the Capahas' trailer was broken into outside of Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita, Kan., and an estimated $1,500 to $2,000 worth of baseball-related items was stolen.

Capahas manager Jess Bolen said among the items taken were hats, pants, shirts, baseballs and bats, along with a first-aid kit. A police report was filed.

"It kind of put a damper on the whole deal," said Bolen, whose squad was eliminated from the tournament Friday morning. "And to top it off, we had a flat tire on our van while it was at the motel. So it wasn't a very good two or three days."

Bolen said he is not sure if insurance would cover the stolen items.
