Jerrod Hull of Sikeston knows how it feels now to win at one of the world's most famed dirt tracks, and he'll try later this week to build on the experience.

Hull won Saturday at Knoxville (Iowa) Speedway to kick off a weeklong series of races that leads to Saturday's 43rd annual Knoxville Nationals, an event that features more than $750,000 in prize money. More than 100 racers will try to make the lineup through qualifying that began Wednesday night and continues today. The race is at 9 p.m. Saturday and airs live on Speed Channel with repeats at 1 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday.

Hull's win Saturday -- worth $2,000 -- came in an invitation-only event for 360 cubic inch sprints as part of the Southern Iowa Sprint Week. It was his first career win at the track.

Tim Montgomery and Robbie Standridge -- sprint division points leaders at St. Francois Co. Raceway at ATPR, respectively -- had a rare head-to-head battle Saturday at SFCR. The winner: neither. Tommy Worley Jr. won the night's finale, while Montgomery was second and Standridge fourth. ATPR regulars Jason Evans (third) and Chad Souders (seventh) also were in the top 10 with ATPR off for the night.

Nathan Rettig of Sikeston was third Saturday in the steel-block late model class at Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway. A broken drive shaft on the last lap spoiled a shot at a win. Dr. David Morris of Sikeston was seventh. Alan Rettig of Sikeston was ninth in the full late model class.
