Jackson senior Brock Howard may not have ended his wrestling career with the ultimate prize, a state title, but Howard's fourth trip to the state meet capped a record-setting career.

Howard's fourth-place finish was his best performance and made him only the third wrestler in school history to win all-state honors three times. Howard finished sixth his freshman year and fifth his sophomore season. Howard's four trips to the state tournament were made at four different weight classes.

Howard also became the school's career wins leader earlier this season, finishing with 168 wins. Brett Stroud held the record previously with 134 wins.

Along with Howard, senior Kremer Rampley put his name in Jackson's wrestling record books this season. Rampley, a 160-pounder who finished third at the state meet, set the record for consecutive wins with 46 and wins in a season with 50.

Lorenz gets nominationApril Lorenz, a senior post player for Perryville's girls basketball team, was one of 1,000 girls basketball players nationwide to be nominated for the McDonald's All-American Basketball Game.

Lorenz broke the school's career scoring record this season and has helped the Pirates to an 18-6 record heading into district play. Only 24 players were selected to the McDonald's All-American team, which was announced Sunday on ESPN2.

Little signs with Quincy Brittney Little, a three-year varsity soccer player for Notre Dame Regional High School, signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Quincy University.

Little helped the Bulldogs make their first state title game appearance last year, as the Bulldogs finished second in the state. Little will join a Quincy team that finished 8-7-3 last season.

St. Vincent product Chelsey Brown, a freshman at Quincy, started 13 games for Quincy last season.

College notesn Advance graduate Garrett Broshuis won his opening start for Missouri. Broshuis pitched six innings against Portland on Feb. 15. Broshuis struck out eight, walked one and allowed four hits. T he Tigers are off to a 8-0 start.

Central graduate Jason Chavez made his Southern Illinois University debut for the Salukis in their second game Feb. 14, pitching against nationally ranked Florida Atlantic. Chavez, a junior who transferred from Mineral Area College, pitched four innings and allowed no earned runs. Chavez allowed three hits and walked three. SIU is 0-5.
