SIKESTON, Mo. -- The Chaffee Medicap Pharmacy American Legion baseball team continued its sensational season Sunday by sweeping a District 14 doubleheader from host Sikeston.

Chaffee prevailed 5-2 and 6-4 to improve its overall record to 20-2 and its first-place District 14 mark to 17-1. Chaffee also has now won all four meetings with Sikeston this season.

""If you had told me before the season that we'd sweep two doubleheaders from Sikeston, I'd have said you were crazy," said Chaffee manager Jeff Graviett. "But Sikeston is kind of banged up right now and we're really on a roll. We're finding ways to win even when we're not playing that well."

Josh Eftink had a big day for Chaffee. On the mound, he was the winning pitcher in the first game and earned a save in the nightcap. Offensively, he drilled a two-run home run in the opener.

Eftink hurled all seven innings in game one, allowing three hits and no earned runs. He struck out eight and walked two.

Garrett Cook continued to sizzle at the plate as he had three of Chaffee's nine first-game hits, including a home run. Cook also drove in three runs.

"He's been tearing it up," said Graviett of Cook.

Todd Friend and Brian Obermann each added two hits in the opener.

Once again Chaffee had nine hits, led by Andrew DePeder and Travis Hanback with two each.

Chaffee is back in action tonight with a 6 p.m. district doubleheader against Cape Girardeau Ford & Sons at Capaha Field.
