The last thing you want to do is make a hornet mad. If you're going to swat at it, make sure you kill it. The Central volleyball team learned that the hard way Monday night as the visiting Advance Lady Hornets came back to sting the Lady Tigers 15-4, 15-7.

Central opened game two down a starting player and down a game; the Tigers (2-16) also opened the game with four straight points. The Tigers had the Hornets down 7-3 at one point with hopes of upsetting the team ranked 10th in the Southeast Missouri region poll.

But as Advance coach Kimberly Aggertt said, it was the Hornets (19-6-1) doing the swatting.

"Our girls showed a lot of heart by coming back like that," Aggertt said.

Alicia Broshuis led the way for Advance. Broshuis rattled off 12 straight service points to end the game and the match.

"She's my best server and my most consistent," Aggertt said.

Dana Williams isn't bad, either. Williams was selected first-team all-district as a sophomore, but as a junior she seems to be struggling a bit.

"She's been slumping pretty bad lately. I told her to just go out there and work on her other shots because she's been hitting a lot of balls into the net," Aggertt said.

Williams did just that. She led the team in three different categories: kills (eight), digs (five), and blocks (four). Williams blocked the final shot by Central's Anna Brisso to end both games.

"I don't think I played very well, it took a while to get used to a big gym like that," Williams said.

Advance completely dominated Central in the first game and left the Tigers with more than one loss. After Central scored its first point of the game to tie it, Advance rattled off 10 straight to put the game almost out of reach. Late in the game junior starter Katie Porter went down with a twisted knee. Porter's status for the remainder of the season is uncertain according to coach Sheila Midgett, and so is the Tigers'.

"You never know with us, one minute we'll play really well the next we'll start playing down. We make a lot of mental mistakes on our own and we need to focus less on mental errors." Midgett said.
