The Advance boys basketball team made its run in the second quarter Friday.

The Hornets turned a one-point lead into a 10-point lead at halftime and held on for the 58-48 road win over Scott City.

Advance got 16 points from both Matt Ware and Jacob Bond. David VanGennip chipped in 12.

Senior Shae Simmons paced the Rams (2-3) with 19 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Ellington tournament Zalma 75, Winona 59

Zalma captured the consolation bracket championship despite never losing a game on the court.

The fifth-seeded Bulldogs did not make the trip for Monday's opening round due to the weather and were sent to the consolation bracket.

In the final, sophomores Justin Stotts and Stephen Simmers combined for 45 points, as Zalma pulled away from a five-point halftime lead with a 21-7 run in the third period.

Stotts scored 24 and Simmers had 21, including two 3-pointers.

Zalma (4-3) next plays 1 p.m. Friday at the FedEx Forum in Memphis against Naylor.
