The Poplar Bluff Mules track and field team outscored the competition on Tuesday to place first in their annual Poplar Bluff Track and Field Invitational at Poplar Bluff Field.
Out of 40 events through the day, the Lady Mules finished with an overall score of 219, and the Mules racked in 193 to land top honors.
“I’m proud of the work the kids are putting in,” Mules track coach Jeff Mannon said. “We have a solid group of boys that are getting better each week. We've been doing great as a team, supporting each other and fighting for each and every team point in every meet. I think we're set up to start peaking at the right time for the state series.”
The Lady Mules jumped out early in the track events as Ava Stotts, Paige Epps, Marley Spain and Wren Cotrell outlasted eight other teams to claim first place in the girls 4x800 meter relay with a time of 10:37. The Mules followed in the boys 4x800 meter relay by finishing third with Lane Dunham, Parker Hicks, Nicholas Spain and Cameron Sisk with a time of 9:04.
Junior Trynitee Watkins shattered the competition for the Lady Mules in the girls 100-meter hurdles. Watkins finished first with a time of 16.82 seconds. The Mules kept the momentum going for the team with a first-place win in the boys' 110-meter hurdles by Spencer Nunn, followed by sophomore Patrick Slack claiming third.
Kolyn McBride won first in the boys’ 100-meter dash, while Presley Tinsley, Adalynn Ordway, Trynitee Watkins and Koryenna Williams won first in the girls’ 4x200 and 4x100-meter relay.
Reed Persons, Brendan Durden, Colt Clifford and Xzavir Jones took first in the boys 4x200-meter relay, while sophomore Ava Stotts won first in the girls 800-meter run
In the field events, Kennedy Zgaynor won first in the girls javelin throw with a mark of 38.22m, while Aiden Pratt won first in the boys discus throw. Spencer Nunn won first in the boys pole vault, while senior Darrius Graham won first in boys’ long, triple and high jump.
