Holloman, back in form, has career-best 188-yard outing

MURRAY, Ky. -- Tim Holloman had the best rushing game of his first season at Southeast Missouri State last year against Murray State, piling up 181 yards in a 52-21 victory.

The Redhawks' sophomore tailback had another big performance against the Racers on Saturday, churning out a career-high 188 yards on 24 carries and scoring two touchdowns during a 24-17 Southeast triumph.

Holloman appears to be fast rounding into form after missing most of three straight games with an ankle injury. He returned to the lineup last week against Eastern Kentucky, rushing for 99 yards.

"I feel good. The ankle really doesn't bother me much any more," said Holloman, who leads the Redhawks in rushing with 558 yards despite basically playing in only five games.

Holloman was quick to praise the Redhawks' offensive line, which repeatedly opened big holes that allowed Holloman to quickly get into the secondary, where he could use his impressive speed.

Holloman scored on touchdown runs of 76 and 27 yards. He also ripped off a 49-yard run.

Redshirt freshman tailback Tony Anderson added a career-high 92 yards on 25 carries and scored on an 8-yard run as Southeast churned out 285 yards on the ground.

"Timmy had a great day and so did Tony. Tony is really coming," Southeast coach Tony Samuel said. "We wanted to run the ball. And I thought our offensive line held up."

Southeast did not attempt a pass in the second half.

"That's fine with me," said Southeast quarterback Kevin Ballatore, who completed 10 of 21 passes for 125 yards, all in the first half. "Whatever's working, and the run was working."

The Redhawks finished with a season-high 410 yards of offense.

Wide receivers Antonio Scaife and Oge Oge both caught three passes to lead the Redhawks.

The Racers had 308 yards of offense, much of that coming after halftime after Southeast held them to 97 yards in the opening two periods.

Another sack for Jones

Defensive end Edgar Jones had another quarterback sack, giving him 11 this season. He entered the weekend as the national Division I-AA leader.

Jones has had at least one sack in seven of Southeast's eight games. He also had two tackles for loss Saturday, giving him 14.5 this year.

Defensive tackles Jeff Steemer and Brandon McCrary both added sacks against the Racers.

Linebacker Anthony Lumpkin had a game-high 10 tackles.
