PATTON, Mo. -- The favored teams all rolled Monday night as the Class 1A, District 4 volleyball tournament got under way at Meadow Heights High School.

Second-seeded Leopold beat No. 7 Caledonia Valley 15-0, 15-10; No. 3 Valle downed No. 6 Oak Ridge 15-3, 15-11; and No. 4 St. Vincent defeated No. 5 Marquand 15-8, 15-5.

Leopold (20-7-3) was paced by Laura Jansen with 14 service points, nine assists and five digs. Courtney Wesbecher had six service points and three kills while Holly Jansen and Kyla Horrell each added three kills and four digs.

St. Vincent (12-13-4) got seven kills from Danielle Sutterer and four kills from Beth Hennemann.

In today's semifinals, No. 1 Meadow Heights which had a first-round bye will play St. Vincent at 5 p.m. and Leopold will take on Valle at 6:15. The winners meet at 7:30 for the championship.

Class 1A, District 2

BELL CITY, Mo. -- Second-seeded Advance, No. 3 Zalma and No. 4 Bell City posted first-round victories.

Advance routed No. 7 Risco 15-0, 15-8; Zalma knocked off No. 6 Oran 15-10, 12-15, 15-7; and host Bell City rolled past No. 5 Richland 15-4, 15-6.

Advance (23-8-2) received five kills from Emily Johnson. Nicole Tropf served seven aces while Amber Bond had four aces.

Zalma (17-8-3), playing without standout Carrie Pixley -- who broke her ankle Friday night -- held off a strong effort from Oran. Amber Buehler had 11 kills, 13 service points and four aces; Erica Campbell had 15 kills and seven service points; Mary Kay Hovis added five kills and nine service points; and Selena Slaughter dished out 25 assists.

Bell City (11-14) got nine kills from Katie Spears; 11 service points from Brooke Stephens; 13 assists from Whitney Abner; and three digs from Amanda Bailey.

Today's semifinals will pit No. 1 Bernie -- which received an opening-round bye -- against Bell City at 6:30 p.m. and Advance against Zalma at 7:30. The winners square off at 8:30 for the title.

Class 3A, District 1

DEXTER, Mo. -- In a mild surprise as far as the seedings, No. 5 Perryville defeated No. 4 Kennett 15-9, 15-7.

The Lady Pirates (9-17) got nine service points, five kills and 18 digs from Katie Kutz; six points and seven assists from Kara Jokerst; six kills and eight digs from Emily Amberger; five kills and 12 digs from Cindy Rhyne; and six kills and seven blocks from Natalie Bohnert.

Perryville will play top-seeded Fredericktown at 5 p.m. today in the semifinals.

BOYS SOCCER

Cape Central 10Farmington 0

FARMINGTON, Mo. -- Jon Mark Thompson scored four goals as Central improved to 12-7-3 by blasting Farmington.

Whit Lynn added two goals while Chris Jones, Clint Hoffman, Matt Davis and Chris Cole all contributed one. Thompson, Jones, Cole, Paul Miller, Eric Daume and Matt Brandt all recorded assists.

Central's JV prevailed 4-0.

The Tigers close out the regular season Wednesday when they visit Cape Girardeau rival Notre Dame for a 7 p.m. contest.
