PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- St. Vincent opened defense of its Class 1A, District 1 title with a convincing 35-0 victory over Chaffee Friday night in high school football action.

Mark Gotto rushed for three touchdowns and Eric Lindsley added two more on the ground as St. Vincent, ranked No. 2 in 1A, improved to 8-0 overall. Chaffee fell to 3-5.

Gotto scored the Indians' first three touchdowns on runs of 4, 21 and 2 yards, the latter giving St. Vincent a 21-0 lead at the 6:41 mark of the second quarter. Lindsley add a 1-yard run with 2:03 left in the half as the Indians took a 28-0 lead into halftime.

Lindsley added a 5-yard scoring run at the 6:01 mark of the third quarter to complete the scoring. Derek Kutz was 5-for-5 on extra-point attempts.

Quarterback Jonathan Paulus led St. Vincent with four rushes for 74 yards. Gotto finished with 66 yards on 17 carries. As a team, St. Vincent piled up 250 yards rushing on 45 attempts. Paulus added 53 yards passing, completing four of six attempts with one interception.

"We probably played our best football tonight," said St. Vincent coach Keith Winkler. "We controlled both sides on the offensive and defensive lines."

SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Scott City broke a two-game losing streak with a Class 2A, District 1 win over Grandview Friday night.

The Rams improve to 6-2.

Leading only 3-0 -- a 23-yard field goal by Andrew Estes -- at the intermission, Scott City put 28 points on the board in the second half.

"Our defense kept us in the game in the first half, until our offense got in gear in the second," said Scott City coach Stephen O'Brien.

Scott City's defense limited Grandview to seven first downs, with Grandview picking up a couple of late scores against Ram substitutes.

Marcus Klund led the Ram ground game with 163 yards on 24 carries with touchdown runs of 15, 38 and 42 yards. Brad Glenn added a 2-yard scoring run.

Quarterback Michael O'Brien was effective through the air with seven completions in 14 attempts for 76 yards.

Eagle Ridge 13-15-15Solid Rock 15-9-10

Eagle Ridge, the No. 3 seed, won its opening-round game in the Ozark Christian Athletic Conference Tournament, rallying for a three-set victory over No. 2 seed Solid Rock.

Brandi Shreeve led Eagle Ridge (5-4) with 11 service points, Ashley had eight and Amber Karnes and Rachele Carbaugh had six apiece. Carbaugh and Cara Ervin both finished with three kills.

Tournament play continues today.
