High school roundup: Woodland softball team advances to district semifinals with win over Scott County Central

Woodland's Mara Grindstaff blasted two doubles to lead fourth-seeded Woodland to a 17-7 victory over the fifth-seeded Scott County Central in the opening round of the Class 1 District 4 spring softball tournament Monday at Scott City High School.

Brooke Miles was the winning pitcher and had two hits.

Anna Deck added a triple for Woodland, who will face top-seeded host Scott City (15-6) in a semifinal at 3:30 p.m. today.

Johneisha Daniel had a double to pace Scott County Central, which ended its season at 0-9.

Second-seeded Advance (16-3) will take on third-seeded Leopold (15-1) in the other semifinal at 5 p.m. The championship game will be played at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

It only took the fourth-seeded Blue Jays three innings to dispose of the fifth-seeded Cougars as Oak Ridge advanced to the semifinals of the Class 1 District 5 tournament at West County High School in Park Hills, Missouri.

Jessica Hahs got the win in the circle for Oak Ridge (8-10). She pitched three innings and allowed one earned run. She had five strikeouts and two walks.

Dawn Yates sustained the loss. She pitched two innings and gave up 23 earned runs. She struck out two and walked 14 to pace Kingston, which ended its season at 7-9.

Oak Ridge will face top-seeded host West County (16-2) at 4 p.m. today.

Levi Alsup threw a no-hitter and tripled to lead the Hawks in the five-inning victory at home over the Royals.

Alsup recorded five strikeouts and four walks to lead Kelly (9-14).

Jeremiah Bain went 3 for 3 and drove in three runs for the Hawks.

Devin Hester took the loss for Twin Rivers. He pitched a complete game and gave up six earned runs. He struck out six and walked one.

Windsor's Tessa Streb and Breanna Sitzes each scored a goal as the Owls claimed the conference road win in overtime.

Calli Robertson and Lauryn Kunz had one assist apiece for Windsor (12-5, 4-1 JCAA Conference).

Goalkeeper Kelsi Gmerek had 10 saves for the Owls.

St. Vincent fell to 9-9 overall and 2-3 in conference play with the loss.

Samantha Ratledge scored two goals as the Hawks won big at home over the Rams.

Emily Bolen, Tessa Johnson and Maegan Walker each added one goal and one assist for Kelly (6-8-1). Alexis Dock and Kaitlin Johnson each had one goal, while Savannah Whitten had two assists and Hailey Noon had one.

Goalkeepers Taylor Crank and MaShanda Reed combined for three saves in the shutout.

The Tigers won one singles and one doubles match in the loss at home to the Mules.

Central dropped to 1-12 with the loss, while Poplar Bluff improved to 7-5. The Tigers will close out their regular season on Wednesday at Farmington (9-3).
