Area high school events reported Tuesday to the Southeast Missourian.

The St. Vincent boys basketball team held on for a 55-53 victory Tuesday as visiting Grandview missed two free-throw attempts in the closing seconds.

Shawn Renner paced St. Vincent (7-6) with 15 points, while Kyle Rollet and Brock French each added 14.

Stephen Capranica led Grandview with a game-high 25 points.

Mississippi Valley Conference Tournament

Meadow Heights, Zalma and Oak Ridge won first-round games at the Mississippi Valley Conference tournament in Chaffee.

Meadow Heights (11-5) beat Marquand 74-39 as Dustin Hubler scored 25 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for his third straight double-double. He added seven steals. Calen Buerck added 14 points.

Zalma beat Chaffee 69-53 as Justin Stotts scored 24 points. Mike Rutherford paced Chaffee with 19 points.

Saxony Lutheran tied the game late in the fourth quarter but was outscored 8-5 in overtime and fell on the road.

Abby Hartman make a jumper from the wing late in the fourth quarter for the Crusaders to tie the game at 42-42, but Saxony missed a potential game-winning shot with seven seconds left in regulation.

Hartman paced the Crusaders (2-12) with 12 points while Brooke Valleroy added 11.

Notre Dame collected nine first place finishes in a three-team meet.

Notre Dame's Morgan Morris won the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly, and she helped the Bulldogs to victory in the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay. Teammate Shelby Ray also won two individual events, touching the wall first in the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle.

St. Vincent's Anna Esswein also won the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke.
