The Bell City baseball team took a two-run lead in the top of the fifth inning but was unable to hang on in their first loss of the season, an 8-5 decision against host Sikeston on Saturday.
Blake Wolferding, Wyatt Pratt, Mackenzie Worth and Will Pratt each finished with two hits to lead Sikeston (4-2) on offense.
Wyatt Pratt pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief to pick up the win. He allowed two hits and no runs with one strikeout and one walk.
Austin Hicks was tagged with the pitching loss for Bell City (4-1), finishing with seven strikeouts and four walks in five innings of work. He allowed 11 hits and seven earned runs.
Peyton Maddox went 3 for 4 to lead the Cubs at the plate, while Jesse Smith contributed a double.

The Bulldogs went 4-1 to capture the bronze bracket championship at the Preseason Blast Tournament in St. Louis.
Notre Dame defeated Seckman 25-11, 25-21 before knocking off Pattonville 25-22, 25-22 in Friday's pool play action. Parkway North handed the Bulldogs their only pool play loss with a 25-12, 25-12 win in straight sets.
In Saturday's action, Notre Dame edged Christian Brothers College 25-20, 21-25, 15-11 before wrapping up the tournament with a 25-21, 27-25 win over Rockwood Summit in the bronze bracket final.
Blake Dunlap concluded the two-day tournament with 36 kills, 40 assists and 37 digs for the Bulldogs, while Evan Landewee added 35 kills, 54 assists and five aces. Sam Dohogne contributed 23 kills and six blocks for Notre Dame, which improved its record to 7-1.
