First-year cross country program Scott City edged out Oak Ridge for the boys title at the Kelly Invitational on Saturday.

The Rams scored 46 points to 47 for the Blue Jays.

Delta's boys were third with 77 points. Fourteen schools participated, although not all fielded full teams.

Scott City's Brandon Shemonia was the individual champion. Also in the top 10 for the Rams was Skylar Cobb in seventh place.

Oak Ridge had four runners in the top 10, led by Caleb Elam in fourth place. Garret Light was eighth, Ethan Seyer ninth and Stephen Bolen 10th.

Delta's Zach Riegert finished second.

Dexter won the girls team title with 37 points. Chaffee was second (58) and Saxony Lutheran third (59).

Chaffee's Luisa Boschan won the girls race. Also for the Red Devils, Elizabeth Schlosser was sixth and Sierra Miller 10th.

Kristin Dippold was third and Tori Winter ninth for Saxony Lutheran.

Scott City's Libby Miles placed fifth.

Forest Park Festival

Central, Jackson, Notre Dame and Kelly all had runners compete during one of the regular season's biggest meets in St. Louis.

Jackson's girls were an impressive fourth out of 24 full teams in the Green Division, by far the tougher of the two divisions.

Taylor Dickerson led Jackson with a 20th-place finish as the Indians had five runners finish in the top 35.

Also in the girls Green Division, Central was 14th and Notre Dame 22nd.

Mary Dohogne was 33rd to lead Central, while Elizabeth Kiblinger was 61st to pace Notre Dame.

Central's boys were 13th among 26 full teams in the Green Division, also by far the tougher of the two boys races.

Roy Leighton led Central by finishing 35th.

Notre Dame's boys were 15th, led by Wynn McClellan's impressive sixth-place performance.

Jackson's boys, competing in the White Division, were 13th among 17 full squads. Ray Hecht led the Indians by placing 39th.

Kelly had just one runner as Cody Kern was 53rd in the boys Green Division.

SOFTBALL Seckman tournament

Notre Dame went 2-2 in the 16-team tournament as the Bulldogs suffered their first regular-season losses since 2006.

The Bulldogs (10-2) beat Fox 7-0 and Affton 10-1. Their defeats were against Hillsboro 5-1 and Lindbergh 6-5.

Ace pitcher Lauren Reinagel went 1-2 in the circle, including a one-hit shutout against Fox.

Reinagel was 4 for 4 at the plate against Lindbergh and homered against Affton.

Summer Burger was the winning hurler against Affton for the first decision of the season by a player other than Reinagel.

Kelly also went 2-2 with wins against Windsor and Nerinx Hall and defeats to Pacific and Cor Jesu.

Carissa Klipfel went 2 for 3 with two RBIs in the Hawks' 4-3 loss to Pacific.

Kelly managed one hit against Cor Jesu in a 1-0 loss. The lone run scored on a leadoff homer in the first inning. Danielle Dock struck out seven in the loss.

Londyn Backfisch went 2 for 3 with a double and homer in Kelly's 10-0 five-inning win against Windsor. Kristen Powell earned the win. Kristen Vetter went 3 for 3.

The Hawks wrapped up the tournament with a 5-0 win against Nerinx Hall. Backfisch went 3 for 3 with a homer while Vetter, Klipfel and Haley Glastetter each had an RBI.

Notre Dame scored 276 points to finish fourth at the 15-team event.

Coleman Schott took second in the 100 breaststroke in 1 minute, 5.75 seconds, a state-qualifying time. He also finished third in the 100 individual medley.

BOYS SOCCER Hannibal tournament

Saxony Lutheran won the title with a pair of shutout victories.

The Crusaders first beat Missouri Military Academy 1-0 as Logan Sprandel scored off an assist from Brent Rodewald.

Saxony then knocked off host Hannibal 3-0. Rodewald had two goals and Gus Klaus one. Assists went to Rodewald, Sprandel and Mark Buerck.

Matt Stueve had three shutouts in the tournament.

VOLLEYBALL SEMO Spike tourney

Jackson (9-2) won two of three matches Saturday, defeating Clearwater 25-7, 25-10 to finish pool play and beating Central 25-23, 23-25, 25-14 in the first round of the gold bracket before losing to Eminence 25-13, 24-26, 25-23.

Rachael Meyr had 16 assists and kills against Clearwater, while Jill Rushin had nine kills.

Against Central, Taylor Glueck had 14 digs, four kills and four aces. Meyr had 23 assists, MaryAnn Bradshaw seven kills and Cassandra Bollinger 12 digs.

Rushin had 10 kills, eight digs and four blocks against Eminence. Glueck contributed 12 digs, eight kills and three blocks. Meyr had 23 assists.

Scott City won its first three matches of the day. The Rams downed Eminence 25-24, 25-24 in pool play. Brooke Simpson recorded 11 kills and 10 digs while Katie Diebold added 24 assists, 10 digs and four blocks. Stephanie Essner contributed 18 digs and four kills.

The Rams followed that win with a 25-20, 25-21 win against Lesterville. Simpson finished with eight kills while Jordan McFall had 12 assists and Mikah Simpson added 18 digs.

The Rams downed Seckman 25-14, 25-20 in the golf bracket quarterfinals behind four kills, four aces and seven digs from Katie Hogan. Diebold had eight assists and seven digs while Brooke Simpson smacked nine kills to go with two aces and seven digs.
