The Saxony Lutheran volleyball team rode a dominant first set to a sweep of visiting Advance on Thursday night.

Saxony posted a 25-11, 25-17 victory as the Crusaders improved to 11-8 while dropping the Hornets to 8-9-2.

"Advance has a lot of good defense. Kills were hard to come by, but we stayed strong and had a good match," Saxony coach Alissa Ernst said.

Raegan Wieser led the Crusaders in kills with four. Courtney Bergman had four aces, Breanna Mueller recorded five digs and Kirsti Polhman dished out eight assists.

Grayson Miles paced Advance with five kills. Ashtyn Hudson added three kills and Allie Below recorded six assists.

Woodland 25-25 Meadow Heights 6-19

Rachel Poole had seven kills, six assists, four digs, three blocks and an ace to lead Woodland's road sweep.

Josie Long posted four kills, four digs and two blocks for the Cardinals (16-5-1). Shelby Sawyer had four digs, two kills and two aces, while Vanessa Wiseman added seven assists and an ace.

* JV -- Woodland won 25-22, 25-3.

Leopold 25-25 Zalma 5-9

Caitlin Petty led a balanced attack with five kills and three aces as Leopold swept host Zalma.

Denai Arnzen recorded four digs, three kills and two aces for the Wildcats (16-3). Sydney Eeftink had 11 assists and two aces, while Ashlyn Bucher added four kills.

* JV -- Zalma won 16-25, 25-13, 25-19.

Perryville 25-25 Hillsboro 11-13

Alex Spears and Brooke Hogard each had eight kills in Perryville's home sweep.

Kayla Buxton recorded 20 assists for the Pirates (13-3).

* JV -- Hillsboro won 20-25, 25-12, 25-22.

Oak Ridge 25-25 Marquand 11-9

Emma Hemmann had 10 kills and an ace to pace Oak Ridge's road sweep.

Also for Oak Ridge, McKenzie Elam had four kills; Cameron Moore three kills and one ace; and Audrey Hunt two kills and three aces.

* JV -- Oak Ridge won 25-12, 25-15.

Sikeston 25-25 Scott City 14-20

Scott City was swept at home. No further details were submitted.

SOFTBALL Central 6, Puxico 3

Kadie Orenstein broke a scoreless tie with a two-run double and struck out four in a complete-game performance to lead visiting Central.

Orenstein plugged the left-field gap with the bases loaded in the top of the third for the second of her three hits. Brooke Anderson added an RBI single as part of a four-run inning as the Tigers (12-5) took a 4-0 lead.

Orenstein walked one and allowed nine hits.

Megan Perry and Meagan Parker both added two hits for Delta (5-9). Rachel Birkman delivered two RBIs.

BOYS SOCCER

Perryville 10, Maplewood 0

Emmanuel Miranda scored three goals as Perryville won its second pool-play game in the Hillsboro tournament.

Emilio Mattingly had two goals and an assist for the Pirates (12-2), while Iann Bergman also scored twice.

Juan Hernandez, Kyle Wood and Matt Keller all added one goal.

Matt Moran led in assists with three. Hernandez and Conner Stark contributed two assists each while Mattingly, Wood and Luke Schlichting all added one assist.

Luke Dobbelare posted the shutout in the nets.

Perryville continues pool play against North County at 5:40 p.m. today before Saturday's finals.

GIRLS TENNIS

Notre Dame 9, Charleston 0

The Bulldogs (11-2) celebrated senior day by shutting out a Charleston squad that brought only five varsity players to the match.
